Has anyone tried homeopathic practitioners ?

Hi,  Seven months after having some kind of virus I now have what I've been told is neuropathic pain.  I am taking high strength painkillers which I hate taking and they don't actually work anyway. I have stopped taking amatryptiline and gabapentin as they were making my hair thin and I don't want that on top of everything else.  I have tried various alternative practitioners without success and just want to return to my former active self.  Can anyone tell me if they or anyone they know has had relief or cure after visiting a qualified homeopathic practitioner for this kind of pain.  The reason I ask is the are very expensive and I don't want to waste lots of money trying something else without a good outcome.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried several homeopathic practitioners with no real positive results. There seems to be no real standards for what a homeopathic practitioner does. One I saw prescribed a bag full of vitamins and supplements, while an another practiced Chinese hebal medicine, acupuncture and other types of treatments. You need to shop around in order to find one that you are comfortable.

May I suggest you read a book that helped me take some of the edge off my pain? The title is "Managing pain before it manages you " by Margaret A. Caudill, MD, PhD

Thank you all so much for your replies.  I rang a local homeopathic practitioner this morning and asked her if she had any success with this kind of pain and she said that they don't treat people for specific pain but rather the person as a whole.  I have heard this often enough before to realise that I will not get the results I am looking for so I don't think I will take it any further. I will look into the book you suggested and thank you once again.

Personally, I look for either a very good shiatsu or acupuncturist for a series of treatments.  Because it is nerve related, only those who are particularly sensitive to one's condition and understand the extent of the pain, are able to help relieve the pain over a period of time.

For this, keep asking people for their experience.  Its a trail and error worth exploring.  Most recently, I suffered from TN (trigemental nerve or tick douloureux) as a consequent of dental surgery a few years ago.  My regular dentist kept telling me he saw nothing wrong with the area after a few x-rays (over a period of 1 1/2 years).

I went to a friend's dentist (closer to home - just to have sutures removed).  I mentioned this nerve problem to him.  Him, being another amazing specialist, asked me some qualifying questions, concluded that a tooth in that area is infected, cleaned it and PRESTO! it looks like the problem is 98% solved, 4 days later.  We shall see.

bottom line, keep asking questions and looking for alternative ways of solving the problem.  Just taking pills don't cut it except weaken one's immune system.

    Good luck.
