Has anyone used Polytrim to treat Blepharitis?

Ok, so I posted a while that I was recently diagnosed with Pink eye and Bleparitis. The thing is my eye is not pink or red and was diagnosed with pink eye. I recently visited my physician and I commented that I was waking up with a lot of crusty stuff on my eyelashes and throughout the day I will see dandruff looking things between my eyelashes and in my eyebrows. Also that when I clean my eyes in the morning I see that some of my eyelashes fall off and my lids are somewhat swollen. He prescribed me Polytrim and been putting them for 3 days now and I'm waking up with a lot of crust in my tear ducts and now have become itchy. What other methods can I do to treat this? Or what's your routine? I'm really frustrated already and feel I'm going to be like this for the rest of my life. I already tried the wet ones, but have trouble cleaning my eyes with those wipes. Any scrubs that I can make at home?

Hi , you didn't mention whether or not you were using lacrilube to " oil" your eyes at night . I'd make that a priority if only to protect the surfaces of your eyes . Just about everyone uses the heat pads for their eyes to help keep  the blocked or semi-blocked glands open and working . Then it's all about regular cleaning around the eyes and eyelids and most of all the actual gland openings just behind your lashes .

Lacrilube is an ocular lubricant, it is gel like and you generally use it at night.

surprised that you weren't advised to use the lacrilube , I take it that you suffer during the night with lack of lubrication and dryness of the eyes . Are you not in the Uk , I know that the US and our NHS have different opinions on the subject of Bleth

Hi David, I used to use Lacrilube but my Ophthalmologist changed his recommendations recently and prescribed VitA-POS instead because he thought Lacrilube was 'rather old fashioned'!  He also changed my Liquifilm to Hyabak.  Liquifilm contains alcohol [as do a lot of eye drops] which is drying.  Hyabak is preservative free.  All the other eye drops that I use, are preservative free and have been for years.

Thanks for that and i'll update my GP who prescribes for me . Mostly I find lacrilube messy to use and takes ages to clean off in the morning . It's rare that i get a tube that " isn't controlable " going all over the place . When i've had a tube that " just comes out of the tube as it should " it has made the job so much easier .

      thanks again.

The VitA-POS is similar in consitency.  It has Vit A added, I understand that deficiency in Vit A can trigger dry eyes.

I'm in the US, Los Angeles to be exact. My eye doctor didnt say nothing about lacrilube or ointment to put at night.

Also was diagnosed with severe anemia to the point of a blood transfusion. Does this have to do anything from me not recovering from the pink eye and blepharitis?

The 'crusty stuff' and 'dandruff' is the outward sign of Blepharitis.

Did your Ophthalmologist tell you how to deal with this?

Mine told me to soak a face cloth in very hot water, with a spot of mild handwash in it, then place this cloth on your eyes until it cools, repeat 2 or 3 times, then wash your face.  This will remove the crusting etc..

The Polytrim is used for bacterial inflammation, such as Blepharoconjuntivitis, which is what you say you have.  Follow the instructions you were given.

My Ophthalmologist also told me not to use any creams at all, near my eyes because they clog the tear ducts.

Persoanlly,  I wouldn't use Wet Ones, for one reason, they tell you not to use them near the eyes - perhaps you are in the US and they don't say that, they do say that in the UK.

Your eyelashes will stop falling out, when you have the Blepharitis under control.

My opthalmologist didnt tell me what to do or a routine to follow. The one that prescribed me the polytrim was my primary physician. As I told Lynda89 I have trouble cleaning my eyes with those wipes, I recently bought Ocusoft lid scrub and have been using that for 2 days now. I get relief, but I have to do this at least 4 times throughout the day and I'm frustrated. I havent tried the warm compresses and usually put a spoon at night to control the swelling.

Also what can I do about the itchiness? One is worse and getting acne looking pimples all over my forehead which I have never gotten. I might go see my physian tomorrow morning and tell him about this situation.

Hi Gabriela, first of all, the lacrilube et al is for dry eyes.  Perhaps you should ask your Ophthalmologist if you have dry eyes.

The spots, have you been anywhere near anyone with chicken pox or shingles?  And, the itchiness - if it isn't chicken pox/shingles, it could be that you are allergic to something that you are using.

I think it would be a very good idea to go and see your doctor.

      Good luck!
