    Hi everyone,

I had my operation to remove 2 in October 2010 and whilst the smaller hole has healed completely, the other has not, i also managed to get mrsa in it and found out today ) on my daily trip to the dessing clinic) that they are going to re-operate as not only has it been eaten away it also decided to track down left, down right and also back up.......my only advise i can give to peeps is, is soon as you think you may have 1 get yourself to the drs, (remember if they burst it is possible to get blood poisening) the quicker you do this the better and dont let them fob you off with anti-biotics, and if you do have to get it operated on, make sure they go deep enough, when they dont you can guarentee you will be going back and forth.........

    good luck, and my sympthays

I had a Karydakis procedure (privately) at the beginning of december. This is where they stitch the wound up rather than pack the cavity. Was told it would take 4 weeks to heal provided there was no infection compared to the normal 8-12 weeks with the packing method.

When I left hospital after 4 days I was not given any antibiotics despite requesting for some and, unsurprisingly, after two weeks, plenty of fluid was pouring out splitting the stitches open caused by an infection.

The surgeon reopened all the bottom stitches (11 in total) and now I have to go to hospital every day to get the dressing changed and repacked.

on 23rd december it was 6.5cm deep, today it is 1.5cm deep. The surgeon reckons it will be totally healed by the end of jan - essentially 6 weeks of packing.

The reason it is healing so fast - and i cant stress this enough - is to keep the wound clean.

I remove the dressing every morning and shower the area, using the water in the jet form to irrigate the hole. Its a bit disgusting and the blood and stuff comes out but when i get it redressed an hour later at hospital it is immaculately clean. If it is particularly messy at the end of the day then i shower as above an redress myself using extra supplies from the hospital.

This is a painful post op procedure - noone likes to have a stick and packing shoved up a hole in their back with just paracetamol for relief.

I got the surgeon to prescribe me some tramadol which i take half an hour before and this takes the edge off quite well. When i have forgotten to take it, believe me, it will make you jump off the bed!
