Hate to Rain on anyones parade.

I'm 65 and have suffered with HS on & off for years. Around the age of 50

(Menopause) and going through a very stressful period of my life - HS kicked in big time. The usual round of Doctors, Hospital Visits, for excisions etc., and in those days no doctor seemed to be aware of this condition. Finally, with the help of Dr Chris Steel from daytime TV, I had a name for it. I joined many support groups - the best at that time was the old Hide group from Canada & the USA - Now taken over by HS-USA. It is a good informative site for newbies.

Over the years I have tried many lotions, potions, vitamins, minerals. I've seen people rave over Zinc tablets - the latest seems to be turmeric. I do hope the people taking these are genuinely helped - but do remember many times you can go into remission - sometimes for long periods. I took turmeric not so long ago & within days, I had one of the worst outbreaks of HS ever. So do be careful when taking stuff, and parting with your money.

The last Dermatogogist I saw - was very honest & said \" You realise there is no cure for this disease\" \" But it can go into long periods of remission.\"

My best advice is try & eat healthily. Wear cotton clothes, try not to stress.

Don't be afraid to tell your friends & families (It tends to run in families, so you may be able to find a soul mate & help each other.) Don't be ashamed about this condition. Use unscented soaps & bath products, however tempted you are to try & mask 'the smell' - don't use deodorants etc. Try a Crystal Stick.

God Bless you all - this is such a painful & debiliting condition - keep you chin up. xxxx

    Hi

I agree with all you've said....... I've tried lots of stuff and some have really helped for a while but nothing provides the dreamt of definitive cure. We just have to find the best way to cope and live with it.

I too use crystal sticks and find them very helpful. You can get them from most chemists now - they are solid sticks of alum - which looks like a lump of transparent crystal rock. you wet it and rub it on the area, it stops the bacteria that cause the smells from forming and is completely natural. the stone slowly wears away with use but lasts a very long time. If you cant find it in your chemist's, go online and search for Deodorant Stick, you can order it very easily over the internet. They also do pump action spray on versions now if you prefer.

Love and blessings to all fellow sufferers.
