I've lived with recurring cysts for years. Was affecting my health and my sex life.

    couldn't live like that anymore.

The only permanent solution is to get the bartholin gland removed.

I'm 3 weeks post op and is great. Will never never come back. I'm thankful.

relly is the best choice if it's affectin ur sex life. I'm married.

    thanks all.

I've mentioned this to specialist the other day who then told me to talk to my gynaecologist but they have said I may have to wait till I get another one but unfortunately when I want to see gynaecologist it's impossible I was meant to have an appointment 3 months after I last saw one and it's now month 6

    Hello Sophy

Just a word of caution for when a gynaecologist recommends removal of the Bartholin's gland and tells you that it is a simple job... that happened to me in December 2013. It didn't work. After a scan in May 2014, I had more "glandular tissue" removed in September 2014. It still didn't work, and I still have a miserable discharge. There is mixed evidence in medical journals about how successful the op can be. I would question the gynaecologist very carefully about success rates and risks.

I have a referal to get the gland removed.  I am very scared!  seems like not too many people have good results?  I had an abcess 2 times, 8 years ago but now just always have ping pong ball lump on left side.  I do not ever wear tampons anymore....I had the ablation treatment so I have light periods anyway and almost am to Menopause.  Please post if you have had the gland removed and it was a success or otherwise....thanks!!

I had my right gland removed.  A urogynecologist performed the surgery.  My gynecologist didn't want to do it.  She made it seem like it was a huge deal and she listed all of the gynecologists in the area and how they wouldn't do the surgery.  What I think she meant was that it was a very tricky surgery for HER to do.  For a urogynecologist or a oncology gynecologist - I don't think it is that difficult.   I read that it is a minor surgery, but technically challenging.  I researched this surgery so much and what struck me is how little information there is out there.  A lot of conflicting info.  I saw 2 gynecologists and 2 urogynecologists.  1 gynecologist at a major university hospital said my gland had to come out because of my age (50 - to rule out cancer - and they don't biopsy these any more), the 2 urogynecologists at different practices agreed with this gynecologist.  My gynecologist wanted to do a marsupialization (worthless procedure) and take a biopsy.  My advice to you:  consult with a few doctors.  Definitely a urogynecologist.
