Have any of you had these symptoms

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had a sudden onset of diarrhoea with blood in the pan Following this I have had constipation followed by going to the toilet and only expelling blood with mucus. I went to my doctor who did a rectal examination and found nothing but a general blood test showed raise levels of protein. I am terrified that it is rectal canceras the blood is light. I had bowel cancer 12 years ago. I am terrified has anyone else had this type of symptom. Please help.

    Hi jillone,

I am newish to this site so I am very sorry if I get it wrong.

It would seem reasonable to me, but I am not a doctor but was a nurse many years ago, to have a colonoscopy, in view of your history. I am sorry if this is not very reassuring but it seems common sense in order to put your mind at rest.

I would go and see your doctor tomorrow and ask or demand a colonoscopy and maybe a referral to a Consultant-Gastroenterologist. I know colonoscopies are not very nice, but well worth it for the peace of mind. I have had 2 this year for symptoms that turned out to caused by coming off anti depressants.

I really hope I have not made you worry more. Also, i was a nurse in A&E and not this area, so I have no special knowledge. But my consultant did a colonoscopy on me with less evidence.

    Very best wishes,

    Anthony

    Hi Jillone,

I am sorry, I should have said earlier, I had bleeding from rectum for many years but that was probably due to piles. My colonoscopy was clear. My main problems had been hot flushes and night sweats.

Also the second colonoscopy was done by a nurse but she was great and make sure you ask for sedation!!

    Best wishes,

    Anthony

Thanks Anthony, I went to see the GP again today he is referring me to my original consultant although he still thinks it could be colitis. I have had a colonoscopy may times so would not ever do it without sedation! But I thought the onset of colitis was in the 20s or 30s age group? My GP is very good and thorough for example I can get an appointment on the day I request it but I am still very worried. Best wishes Jill
