Have eGFR calculations changed?
Posted , 3 users are following.
I saw my GP yesterday, my eGFR was up from 51 to 64. I was pleased, but he said the way they work it out has changed, so the comparison is not accurate, and to be retested in 3 months.
Has anyone else been told this?

A GFR is only a best guess and it can change depending on your circumstances before the test. That is why they use creatinine levels as this is accurate. A GFR can change depending on what you have been doing before the blood test for example exercise, if you have an infection (that you may not be aware of) how much or little you have had to drink. There are lots of other factors, which is why that later is bang on the nose. Hope this helps.

Hi,
It doesn't all it will do is possibly lower your urea result. Before my transplant I drank a lot and didn't drink a lot it didn't make any difference all you could possibly do is give false readings.
