Have experienced lots of HH ... finally I know what it is!

For just over a year i've been experiencing these hallucinations. The first time I had one I remember being completely confused by what happened and thought of it as just a 'one-off' bad dream.

But then I kept having the hallucinations frequently, mainly they are of weird bug type creatures, giant spiders, strange swarms of flies and patterns of lights (almost like fireworks going off in my face). The worst ones I've ever had were of a small boy sat on my shelves in my bedroom, with his legs dangling over, staring at me. And I have also seen a person (always male) stood over me or stood in the room. If I stared at him it would seem like he was 'growing' bigger. My immediate reactions were to get up and bolt out the room ... sometimes I would end up in the hallway outside or downstairs somewhere. After frantically bolting out the room or throwing things at the person/creatures etc, its almost as if I would 'wake up' properly, and wonder how I ended up in a different room or why I just threw things or screamed etc ... I'd be very dis-orientated. But then i'd realise what had happened.

The strangest thing for me is, that whenever I see a person in one of the hallucinations, I can see every detail of their face, clothes, even details on their shoes. Even now I can remember the face/eye colour/hair etc of the guy that I saw most recently.

Disturbingly, they are always scary or harsh looking which really does frighten me!

At least I know i'm not alone. I have been tempted to go to my GP, but have put it off as I don't want them to brand me as 'crazy' or 'insane'!

I'm so glad I found this, I have these too. Most recently last night when I giant Spider walked across my ceiling causeing me to fly out of bed, jumping over my husband, ripping off the duvet and cowering in the corner of our room under it. I always wake up and convince myself it's not real but I can see the images very clearly, in colour and sometimes sound. I've seen people (usually men) and spiders and also flies. I'm glad I have found a name for it and I do notice it happens mostlky when I have a lot on my mind.

Hi, erm, i'm 17. I've had strange things happen when i go to sleep almost every night. I lie in bed and as i am in the state which is between asleep and awake I begin to see farmiliar yet unrecognisable objects/people/things which are white, pure and beautiful, at the point that i focus on these objects they then begin to decay, rot and become generally darker and more exposed, i can then see every detailed point of them which is scary. They then go back to being white and fluffy. This rapid change between the dark and light, decayed and pure keeps happening, more and more rapidly, at which point a noise to the right of me syncs with the visions and it becomes overwhelming, i wake up in sweat and tears on most occasions. That, or i sit up in my bed and still see the visions and hear the noises even though my eyes are wide open. I don't know what do about it? If somebody could help me?

    thanks.

    Hi

I am 61 years old male and have been dealing with HH episodes since I was about 20. At first they frightened the life out of me but over the years I have learned to live with them but they still can be incredibly frightening and upsetting. They seem to have increased from about 1 episode per week to now 3 or 4 per week and almost always happen on going to sleep. My experiences vary from out of body feeling to floating along with legs off ground into dark tunnels and not knowing whats ahead.I get bitten a lot by wild animals and I swear I can feel the pain of teeth sunk into my hand. This event usually wakes me up as I fight the HH and force myself out of the nightmare.Sometimes I can control the HH and very occasionly can induce a pleasureable experience but this is rare . The oddest event is when I find myself in a coma like state at say work and people I know are walking and talking around me and I am desperatlely trying to get them to wake me . I cant understand why they are not noticing I am in this state and its so weird. I could fill a book with the many different forms the HH takes. I get no sympathy whatsoever from my family who think its a bit of a laugh and I never mention it to my doctor. This is the first and last time I have blogged on the issue and it feels good to talk to others and know that it is so common. I feel sorry for all sufferers of HH and I think its needs better recognition as a very severe sleeping disorder and more information should be out there for relief or cure. The only advice I can give is to try take control of the dream/nightmare and go with the flow. I do have a way to get out of a very distressing situation . I can breathe very loudly to alert my wife I am in this state and she gives me a good shake to wake me. I never have HH when I go back to sleep the second which is weird . Thank you for reading my experience and hope it may help somebody. Regards.
