have found the cause for my dizziness

Posted , 9 users are following.

I suffered for about two and a half years with dizziness and a stormy head, feeling sick and sometimes a pressured ear. I was diagnosed with silent miagraines. However I have recently been diagnosed with pernicious anaemia, meaning I am deficient in b12 and my vitimin d was also low, which can also cause my symptoms so thought I would pass on to others to save them suffering for so long as I cant believe how ill bein low in vitimins can make you!

Hi Laura! I am glad the doctors were able to figure out what is causing your symptoms! What is the treatment for pernicious anemia? And can I ask you how low was your B 12? When this first came on for me my doctor ran a test for B12 deficiency and said it should be around 500 and mine was 142 so she said I was low and also i was low in vitamin D... So I have been taking B12 and D daily but my symptoms have not improved so I am wondering maybe mine wasn't so low to be considered pernicious anemia? Or maybe I am not taking enough? And have you fill out an improvement in your symptoms since treating pernicious anemia???? Signed very curious and optimistically excited!

Hi Jodie, the doctor didn't give me the levels I will have to find out. The treatment is b12 injections and even if not pernicious anaemia which means my gut doesn't actually take b12 in I was told I still had to have the b12 injections (had to have a second blood test to find out if pernicious anaemia so I am surprised your doctor didn't do another blood test)

also so the doctor told me over the counter vitamins were not strong enough so gave me prescription tablets?

and yes even though not completed b12 injections I feel like a new woman!

Laura I am so happy that you are feeling better! Gives so much hope to everyone else! Thank you so much for being willing to share your information! If you happen to find out would love to know your numbers on your level of b12. I just called my doctor office and they have sent in an order for me to have a second blood test for B 12 at my request. I will have it tomorrow. My first one was three months ago and have been taking B12 over-the-counter vitamins since if my level has not improved from 142 then maybe this is my problem too and it will cause my doctor to pay attention to this. I actually just signed up with a new doctor because I have been not pleased with my current... She does not seem to take me seriously.. But I cannot see my new doctor until February 24 so have contacted my current/old doctor for this blood test tomorrow... But do please let me know if you're able to come up with a number of where your B12 is would be very curious to compare what your doctor considers to be low enough to get prescription be 12 versus what my doctor is thinking... Thinking I made a good choice to switch doctors! But we will see... Again thank you so much for being willing to share your information! And I am so very happy for you!!!

Hi Laura again! I am not sure I am reading this correctly or if your question about being vegetarian was directed to me... In case it is though, no I am not a vegetarian... I have been reading at web M.D. regarding pernicious anemia though since your post earlier and while I am not a vegetarian I do have a heat control problem with my thyroid which is also listed as one of the possible causes for lacking that what ever it is that you need to absorb B12... Curiouser and curiouser....

Hi love glad you are better - has the dizzy gone now? Does that what uve been diagnosed with not show up on regular blood tests ? I've had 4 blood checks since I've had this and no joy in a diagnosis - I am so tired all the time along with dizzy and other symptoms - hate it 15 months now swaying xxx

      Problems with diagnosing B12 deficiency

There are serious problems with diagnosing B12 deficiency. The Full Blood Count (FBC) that is routinely used by doctors to check the condition of a patient’s blood does not automatically include the test for B12 status. What the FBC will show is whether or not you have enlarged red blood cells (macrocytosis) which can be an indicator of low B12. However, folic acid will prevent your red blood cells from becoming enlarged and the doctor may not ask for further investigations. And anyway, not all people with low B12 will have enlarged red blood cells even if they have not been taking folic acid

Yes i forgot to mention I felt very tired and had slight muscle aches. Symptoms still there but mild compared to how I was!

it is a separate blood test but b12 would be low on vitamin check test, i don't think this is on standard test but thought would have been by the forth test

    Hi Laura,

I am so pleased a cause for your dizzyness was found, I do hope the Vit B12 injections do the trick. I was tested but unfortunatly not my cause, but at least my specialist knew to check it. Very worth while asking your Dr for this test everyone!

Hi Laura Ive been diagnosed with silent migraine.  Dont know about the other stuff.  Im seeing the neurologist next thursday so I will ask him.  Has your dizziness gone now ?  A lot of my symptoms went after my botox but sadly not the dizziness. I know that no one really understands migraine and how it is caused so no wonder were all floundering in the dark, so are the neurologists.  I hope we all wake up one day and its gone !  We live in hope.  I think of it as a form of torture really.

      Hi Paula,

I feel better but it's not gone. I struggled to understand how I could feel constantly dizzy and it seemed to get worse. Although having suffered with migraines since 11 I can see the link of symptoms but headache missing. I do wonder if I got two things going on. I am annoyed I'm under an ent consultant for migraines still (referred there to check ears etc but diagnosed silent migraines) and not referred to a neurologist

i really hope I'm just not havin a freak good week! Because it made me so I'll I couldn't live a normal life!
