Have had extremely bad belly pains since Saturday.. went on vacation last week to cuba ..

I am 24 years old and overall healthy.. I went on vacation for a couple days and came back on Feb 29th from Cuba. As of the 5th of March I began to get extremely bad belly pains. The first two days I had diarrhea but it was watery, yellow, and it wasnt like the normal diarrhea. Eventually it became like normal diarrhea and came out all together.. (this is so gross explaining.) My problem is the pain that comes in the mornings its like I got a belly infection or something sometimes it hurts down to my ovary section. I did the belly pushing test doctors do and it seems the most pain is from under my belly button when pressure is added. I was worried it was Zika Virus because I did get some bites on my body but i dont have any symptoms that come with it.. If i drank contaminated water would it show up this far along? days later? I live in Canada so the regular doctors are horrible i need to see a specialist and it will take forever..

    Hi karolina77181

It is your responsibilty that you get this checked out as you may infect others especially pregnant ladies. You should make an appointment for a blood test a.s.a.p....and yes it would show up after a period of time because it has an incubation period and then time for your immune system to respond...best wishes...

Karolina, based on what lilian is describing through your regular doctor you can get the blood test instead of waiting to see a specialist.

Hi Karolina 77181 i doubt its the Zika Virus, more like just a change of water to what you re used to, not neccessarily contaminated, but a change of water in a different country cn cause the symptoms you describe,

Plese just see a Dr, to put ypur mind at rest , better than worrying ,even if the Drs ARE horrible

Please let us know how you ger on

Karolina, please go and get checked out. We know so little about the Zika virus...it could have totally different symptoms in some people from what is being reported. We just don't have a long enough history with this illness to know what to expect. Also, something showing up 5 days later sounds like it could be parasitic. It could be anything, but having diarrhea that is not like something you've had before, is a sign that something is going on. When I have a different symptom...something like I've never had or seen before in my body...that is when I become more concerned. Even if you need to be referred to a specialist, and it takes forever, I think you still need to be seen by a doctor. There is always concern when someone comes back from a foreign country and gets sick with symptoms unlike what a patient has had before. I wouldn't wait, or just hope it will go away. Getting peace of mind that it's NOT something serious is worth all the gold in the world. It could be something benign but contagious...I know you don't want to be a danger to anyone in your family or circle of friends/associates. Best, Joy

yay! this is alarming..have a stool test fast.. you might find eggs of parasites so you can find treatment fast..if it is parasitic by nature it might damage other organs and might live in vital organs, and  later on damage the organs..it might also be a protozoan... mosquitoes transmit protozoans... yes you are correct, sometimes it will take days before actual symptoms maybe felt..because the parasite will still undergo developmental stages before they actually migrate to target areas.. i just hope it is not zika.. that is why i always use repellent if I gosomewhere else.. please update us of your progress..thanks and i really hope you will find immediate relief.
