I have been taking sertraline for about 8 months now. I suffered from both depression and anxiety for four years and I'm 20. smile don't be scared of taking pills the effects outweigh all of the fear you got. As for side effects all I know about it based on experience is that it;s an antidepressant so it will make you feel less moody. It will also keep your thoughts from going haywire and all over the place. as my doctor once told me, it binds the neurons together so you'll feel more put together. and you'll sleep better! you might gain or lose weight depending on  your lifestyle but dont let that affect the way you feel about taking the pills smile thats all for now I guess smile

Like you I was really scared of taking these. Been on them since July and feel 90% to being "normal". Don't worry about side effects as not everyone gets them. For me personally my anxiety was a bit high.. but it was high before sertaline. I had a little upset tummy.. sleep wasn't great and felt a bit sick. Keep busy and forget you have taken them. A few weeks pain for long term again.

    Good luck

In the UK waiting times for CBT can be upwards of 6 to 12 weeks. so you have time to get used to your medications

The drug you will be taking needs upwards of five or six weeks to work so I would advise you take your tablets to get over the contraindications and become used to taking them

I take a different medication than you and have been on these ones now for four years, they seem to work, In your case give them time, you will get a great deal more out of CBT while you take them

    Good Luck

Hi Chelsea keep posting won't you, first pills can make you feel a bit wierd to begin with, as everyone on hear can sympathise with and advise you on!

I got dry mouth and felt a bit spaced out, but it does settle and you won't get the best therapeutic effects for 4 weeks, so whatever you do, don't stop taking them!

      Lotsa love xx

      Hello

Terrible you need to wait for some assistance.

I was suicidle earlier this year and was seen by the Crisis team at home and a trick cylist  a little later two months ago and. I then was given a further appointment with the trick cyclist about six weeks ago and then went on holiday.

Yesterday I was introduced to my CPN and will be starting CBT to make sure I do not try and take my life. My appointments at this time will be monthly and the Service will keep an open mind and see me if I become Suicidal again. So all is now sorted I hope and we continue onwards and upwards. My problem is the Reactive Depression caused by a Chronic medical condition and now will never be off my mediations.

It is really important you take your Medication in its entirity and do not stop taking them, I am pleased for you that you have made your decision to take your mediations, Your CBT Appointment will eventually go better because of this

Mental Health is a Cinderella Service at this time and resources are tentative to say the last. That is not our conern what is our concern is getting well once more.

We are here if needed chelsea

I've been on sertraline for two years, and am about to come off it because I am better.

Side-effects are slightly dry mouth, difficulty in passing urine and sometimes sleepiness.

Other people get different side-effects but those are the usual ones.

Take them, Chelsea, honey. it's not forever.

    Love Tess xx

Hi Tess. When you were on this Journey and you increased your doze did you have side effects? I am on day 7 of 75 and I feel just awful been on 50 since July. I feel anxious and sesty, cold feet and really down today.

Glad to hear you are better. I hope to post the same one day. X

Zowie - your doctor's slow in upping your dose!

No, actually, I had no side-effects at all when i took more. In fact they went away....

Time to up your dose, I reckon. Go back to the doctor and discuss it.

The other possibility is very simple - you need a different anti-depressant.

Yes, I know - starting at the beginning again. But sometimes it's the only way.

Please go back to your doctor and get some advice, Jay. xx

THanks Tess. I managed to get an appointment this moring. I really don't want to change as I was feeling relatively good on 50 and all others I tried didn't work so I'm nearing the end of the road with sris.

I had a bath and feel a bit better but I think I need to get this checked but looking back I am sure I felt like this when I first started Sertaline e.

God I hate this anxiety and its black dog

      Just wondered if you'd tried mirtazapine - it's a non-ssri AD.

      Or good old-fashioned amitriptyline?

Hiya. I was on mirtazpine for around 2 years and had to come off it as it was doing nothing. I haven't tried the other one though. Don't want to have to go through the whole side effects thing again. I think this could be the 75 just going into my system now.

Feeling a bit better than when I posted this.

      Thanks x
