Have have the reactive arthritis or AS and Inflamatory arthritis for 40 years but has been in remission most of the time. during this time i was on a nsaid (dylclofenac) successfully.  about a year ago i experienced a severe flare up in my knees.  I was was put on sulfasalzine for 3 to 4 months with no relief.  Then tried methotrezatefor 3+ month with no sucess.  Doc is now want to put me on remicade.  I'm concerned about side effects for the drugs as i was on embril in 2010 for 5 week and that brought on shingles so stopped it.  I need knee rep;acement on both knees but have soem much imflamation in my synovial fliud arouf the knee that they dont want to operated with the IA i have.  They say to give remicade a try.  My sed rate and CRP are elevated and have been since fall 2015.  Can anyone give me encouragement to go on the remicade so that it has positive results.  Id be very interested in those experience whereit yield side effects, etc.  Thanks you in advance for your replies.

Hi Wayne, Remicade was the first biologic drug I was put on and I did not have any negative reaction to it, only good. It worked, for me for almost 2 yrs. I really loved Remicade and if the drug I am on now stops working I will probably try Remicade again. Good luck

I urge you to go to the Remicade website where you can read up on this medication.

All bodies are alike. Just as all bodies are different. I successfully used Enbrel for 8+ years. Yoy successfully used Enbrel for 5 weeks.

Once you step into the world of DMARDs and Biologics serious risk must be considered. DMARD is disease modifying anti rheumatic drug. Very literally, the disease itself is altered. Compare this to an NSAID, non steroidal abti inflammatory drug which treats the inflammatory symptom of the disease without modifying the disease itself.

I agree with the wisdom that inflammed joints should not be operated on...the risk of infection is much to great. At best, your implant would have to be removed to allow the infection to heal. Leaving the implant in place runs the risk of the infection entering the bone, a very serious situation. At worst case, your bones would be unable to accept a new implant and the joint would have to be fused into a permanent fixed position.

I have undergone joint replacement many, many times. I have taken steroids, NSAIDs, and DMARDs & Biologics. Each class of medication has adverse side effects.

I am on Remacade.  They told me it would take a few months for it to kick in, 3 days later I was literally dancing!  So far after 2 years, no negative side effects. But as the others say, it effects us all differently.  Methotrexate amd sulfasalzine did not help me a bit but I had to stay on it for a year before they would allow me to go Remacade.  Good Luck and let us know how you do on it.
