Have I been misdiagnosed?please share your experience

Hi all.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes hsv1 in decemeber just gone.

Like alot of ye, the first outbreak was horrendous, both physically and mentally.

But I'm now very very concerned that I've been misdiagnosed. I was told by my blood result that it was hsv 1 but I'm sitting here experiencing my 4th episode sad in 8 months. All my research, and even the doctor said, I may never get an episode again as it was hsv 1. But my symptoms and number of episodes are all matching up with hsv 2.

For ye who have hsv 1, did ye have many episodes like me???

All advice greatly appreciated xx

You might want to reconfirm your diagnosis by swab the next time you have an outbreak. How were you diagnosed previously? By IgG during your first outbreak or 3+ months after?

If your swab confirmed Type 1, then it's Type 1 and you're likely one of the unfortunate ones who has outbreaks more frequently. If *only* the blood test turned up Type 1, then that was something you already had at the time, not necessarily what is causing your outbreaks. Takes around 2-3 months to detect IgG for herpes (IgM is not accurate, so if that's what you had done instead, ignore it). So, it depends on which test you had done and when, etc.

Hello. I have genital hsv-1. I was diagnosed almost a year ago. Other than my initial outbreak that was so horrible I have not had any other outbreaks or symptoms. The only thing that I really notice is when I shave down there it gets really irritated now and gets sore so I just don't shave like I used to and I have been fine. No other issues. I would def talk to your doctor or another one to make sure

Thanks all for your help ☺

Contacted my doctor again and the swab result (in december) was definitely hsv1 but he wants me to reswab with query a need for another course of anti-viral meds or the very rare possibility that I could have hsv 1 and hsv 2.

    I hope not the latter!

    Thanks again

Instead of waiting for your next outbreak to do a swab, you could always do another IgG test now, since your last test was back in December, and that would tell you if you are only carrying Type 1 or not. Either is fine. At least it seems like you only have Type 1, even if it is annoyingly more frequent than normally the case.
