Have I got genital herpes?

Okay so I got checked out for STI's roughly about 2 months ago and I was tested negative for each one. Slight problem is I cannot remember if I was tested for herpes! I'm sexually active with a partner I've been with for 2 years. He hasn't got it. The last time I had sex, if I remember correctly was about 10-11 days ago. I've only ever had unprotected sex once and that was about 3 years ago, so surely I would've had a herpes outbreak before then?

So it started off with a little soreness around the vagina. Nothing major - nothing but a slight tinge. Then when I went to pee it was like peeing fire!!! Then bumps appeared which started to fill with puss. There was specs of blood but I'm not sure if that was from irritating them. I've had discharge, which isn't irregular for me, just a little heavier flow than usual. This lasted for about a week and is now healing. The blister like spots have now scabbed over and it no longer hurts to pee. I've had no flulike symptoms, fatigue or other possible symptoms of herpes.

I'm seeing my GP Wednesday, which I'm pretty certain they're going to send me straight to a gum clinic which makes it a pain for me to get to! Just need to put my mind at ease and stop Googling herpes!! Could it be anything else? Yeast infection? Bacterial infection..?

Hey to me that deffo sounds like herpes i was diagnosed in november and have done quite a bit of reseach.

Even having sex with a condom there is still a chance you could get infected as sores ect are not always just around the genitals.

But saying that there is a chance you could have caught it years ago before i was diagnosed i hadnt had sex for 3 months i have been with the same partner for nearly 5 years and only had one previous partner before the current one i had never had an outbreak and dont know how long i have had it or where i got it from you can be infected other ways though not just by intercourse i was told by the nurse its most likely i caught it from my boyfriend. He used to suffer with coldsores so had the herpes virus already i then could have caught herpes from him through oral sex even though there were no blisters ect there is still a small chance you can catch it i then developed type 2 and most likely have passed that to my boyfriend but as he has antibodies already against the virus he may never have an outbreak

Theres alot of different ways you can be infected but it deffo sounds like herpes to me when you see them just talk to them and ask all the questions you need they are really nice in gum clinics and so understanding of how you feel i hope its not for you but good luck x

Sounds like herpes to me too. Doctors have a very hard time diagnosing herpes when it's cleared up, so you won't get an accurate diagnosis. I don't have faith in the blood test either.

    Hi Lara,

I regrettably agree with the above posters. When you got tested, did the doctor perform a blood test? The blood test would check for herpes & HIV. If you did not give a blood test, call your doctor and schedule one asap. If sores should reappear, make an appt asap also. The best way to test for herpes is when your sores are in the beginning stage. You definitley want to take care of this right away because if this was your first outbreak, unfortunately you may have more reoccurances. Some peoples outbreaks aren't as bad as the first one but for me, mine are always bad and very painful. You and your boyfriend might want to consider anti viral therapy such as Valtrex etc. It will limit your outbreaks and passing the virus along. In the mean time get some aloe, vitamin E oil, the vitamin Lysine, witch hazel and Epsom salt. These are all the items that you'll need to soothe your outbreaks and help control them. Eat a healthy diet, yogurt everyday if you can. Get plenty of rest and exercise. This bitch of a virus LOVES weaken immune systems and stress. Good luck and keep your head up girl. I know how disheartening this is. It will take some time to get use too but trust me, your life isn't over.

Oh no! Not the responses I wanted! sad Although, I did have a blood test when I last got checked! So that means I did get tested for it?!

The thing with blood tests are they can not always detect herpes. The best way to be sure is to be swabbed straight from the sores this way they get an accurate result x
