Have I injured my back?

My lower back is now worse than it’s ever been. Unfortunately due to us being quiet at work I was helping out on the shop floor lifting and sorting metalwork, nothing that heavy but not what I’m used to doing. At the same time I was moving flat so had been carrying boxes and been on my hands and knees putting flat pack furniture together. I’m now paying the price dearly. To be honest this is the first time I have tried to do this since my back and neck troubles started so I didn’t know what I could and couldn’t do, but now I do! I can’t bend much at all and it’s been 3 weeks. It’s not like I actually hurt it at any stage. It’s something that started small and got worse and worse on the day I moved and after we had finished for the day. Hope I have not done any permanent damage and it will settle down given time.

Have a google for 'Trigger Point Treatment' - it's a self-help treatment. It won't fix the underlying problem - probably some kind of postural/movement impairment. However, it can be a MASSIVE help in getting you out of pain and mobile. Then you can start thinking about a plan for getting back to 100% permanently.
We're led to believe that once these joint pains start we're stuck with them. We're told they aren't treatable. What that really means is that it's complicated and not cost-effective for a health care professional to treat, and possibly cure you. However, a major component is always going to come down to soft tissue and if you're willing to put in the time you CAN resolve that yourself. In many cases - including extreme cases like mine - this can mean complete cure. If you have the time then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
