Have I over done it and is it normal

Hi
I'm 4 and a half weeks post op after total hip replacement on left side. I was doing so well until yesterday when I decided to do my walk with just one crutch walked just over quarter of a mile. Now I'm in so much pain in my left buttock and the burning has come back in my scar. I've also just started doing more exercises that the Physio gave me to do.
I just wanted to check if this is normal have I over done it or should I be worried.
Thank you Sarah.

Hi Sarah, Kevin is right. Although you shouldn't go overboard with exercise, your body can cope with a little bit extra each week and you will notice the difference very quickly. Just remember that you have undergone massive surgery and the whole of your body needs to recover from the shock. So be kind to yourself and each day, week month will bring little triumphs.
I have two new hips and am extremely happy!

Hi Sarah, please remember that you have had a major operation! It can take 6 months or longer,it depends on the person.sadly for myself I have huge problem S as I had no after care,& being a carer for my Hubby was awkward even though I had cover most days I still ended up doing far too much! you will get there, but each time you over do it you will be reminded by your aches! Hope this makes sense.regards Amanda

I'd say YES, you're overdoing it. At this stage of things, you need to do the exercises and a bit of walking (with maximum support for you operated leg/hip) and rest it in a good position. It is healing but no healed. Perhaps a hot shower would give you relief. Slow and steady got the turtle the prize!

Sarah,
My Dr did not send me, a 53 year old, to Physio until 8 weeks after my surgery. In his opinion people overdo it. So, I guess we have time to take it easy. Secondly, there is so much going on the first month or two and parts of your body are compensating with others... hard to figure out what normal is Looks like you have found some good advice etc already. Good luck.
