Have lost my confidence.

I have had IBS for years now. My story is that I have a flare up, when it's over I may not have another for a week or maybe weeks. I have IBSd which is horrible. Out of the blue I have to rush to the toilet, It's just a huge rush of diarheea. I must then sit close to the toilet with my trouser open as a few minutes later I have to go again when there is another explosion. This goes on until my bowel is empty after an hour or so, with the most awful cramp. My huge problem is that I am scared to leave the house now as I get no warning at all of when this will next happen. I feel I would just die of shame if I had to go and I would not get to a loo in time. If I try to get info on diarheea it usually say s it lasts for days, not with me it is a few hours. Anyone have any help or have the same symptoms as me?

Hi,usually when I have a flare, its when I'm stressed,I have anxiety and that gives me all kinds of stomach issues, gas, bloating and yes at times IBS D, your symptoms seem like mine get at times I know there are specific meds your doctor can give you to control some of the symptoms far as the D part of it, Pepto Bismal helps me at times. I think Imodium might help, might want to do a Google check on it or consult your doctor.

Thanks, Lee. Have tried Immodium but has not stopped the diarheea. x

Take Imodium and that will stop the diarrhoea . You will then have the confidence to leave the house. Try not to stress about your symptoms because this will prolong the flare up.

Hi, pippa. Immodium has absolutely no effect. Have tried it but it does not stop me having explosive diaarhea. Thanks, though. x

Have you tried upping your dose? Maybe you are not taking enough of them to have an effect? Try seeing your doctor for a stronger anti diarrhoea med if you have upped your dose and it is still not working. It seems strange that it doesn't help because it works for most people.

have you noticed any food intolerances or any foods in particular that lead up to this? Sugar or dairy use to do that to me. I basically have the C version of IBS but I'm also Celiac. I did however have the diarrhea thing years ago but i finally linked it to foods high in sugar or sometimes fried foods did this to me as well

Maybe there is a type of food that is bothering you - check stress levels too.
