Have not got a clue! In need of advice

Hi,
I've had this problem for almost 3 years now and went to my doctors on numerous occasions. I only had the chance to see one particular doctor who said I was suffering from sciatica (which I have now found out is a SYMPTOM of a slipped disc and not an actual condition). He prescribed pain killers for me which were great as they took the pain away (in the short-term). However, after visiting my doctors a few more times I still hadn't seen any progress. I eventually managed to see a different doctor at the surgery who referred me for physio therapy. After consulting with the physio therapist he diagnosed a slipped disc and told me to take pain killers and gave me exercises to do.
Being a student and very un-organised and busy I missed one appointment and haven't been able to go back since.
I got the pain after lifting heavy crates at my old job years ago and felt the pain the next day. I've had it ever since after being on my feet for long periods of time. I have the lower back pain, pain down the side of my left leg and my bladder has recently been affected. (sorry for going on).
From what I have read today I am a bit worried so if anyone has a similar experience or any advise it would be very much apprecited.
Thanks

I suffer back problems after a prolapse at L5 S1 and I will always remember a physio, an osteopath and a Dr telling me that if you ever get bowel control issues to go to A and E...
