I think mental health care in the NHS is suffering really badly. It's hard to get referred and then the care at the out-patient centre is poor. I got very desultory care about two years ago leading to a sequence of events that really screwed up my life. I'm now divorced and lost my job.

Its just funding. The Tories are killing the NHS.

Hi tim funding is a huge issue but I have found that the attitudes of managers, consultants cpn's and other staff where i am in hampshire disgusting, out of the 10-15 years that i have been under the service in the last two years it has only got worse I have had 12 to 15 psyhciatrists in that time of which only 3 or 4 wanted to actually help me the rest were usless and when i complained they just put the blame back onto me they never accept they are in the wrong which has caused me numerous problems in trying to stay stable.

OMG. Don't get me started. YESSSS!!!!!!!!!! I was crying with frustration this morning trying to get psychiatric help for my daughter.

We have spent over 18 months trying this way and that way, going to out patients and leaving feeling confused and unsure and with no further support offered. Seeing the gp who has referred and re-referred her. Ringing the Crisis team on New Year's Eve at 1am the person I spoke to made no sense, offered no solution and then wished me a Happy New year!

The person i spoke to this morning on the phone said that according to her information the drugs should have been increased. But by whom? And how were we supposed to know?

I know resources are tight, but they have made the system virtually impenetrable! If you PAID someone to make the service as hard to access as possible, they could not do a better job.

My daughter concludes that she has to attempt suicide in order to get help. From where me and her Gp stand, we can only shake our heads in disbelief.

There is no procedure, no structure, no time scale and no one communicating and/or overseeing a patient's care it seems to me. It is haphazard at best.

    I'm sorry I've been having a rant haven't I?!

Hi sorry taken so long to get back to you.Thats fine to have a rant I know how frustrating the system is in england Its not much better once your in the system because they cannnot wait to get you out any I dont want to go off on a tangent about that .The one way you might have some joy in getting some help for your daughter is to keep pushing through her GP but at the same time find out who your local MP is and put your concerns to him/her they are there to represent you and look out for you and  your daughter's  best interests.local MP's normally have times when they meet with there constituants you have to pre book these meetings bugt it is always best meeting them face to face also good to take someone with you who is impartial hope this is of some help russ.
