Have You Tried Any Vision Apps?

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if anyone has used any of the vision test apps that are out there. I've tried a free Snellen chart by Meneses that I downloaded to my Android phone (maybe it's an Apple app too I don't know) and I find it quite useful to test my reading vision. It allows one to test all the way to 20/16 or equivalent and one can set contrast and distance from the phone to the eye. I know many of us wish to know how we're doing under various scenarios and I thought maybe it would be useful anyone in this forum.

Cheers,

Indy G

The only ones I have used are the Snellen eye chart for distance and the Jaeger eye chart for reading vision. I have found pdf versions here:

    .

All About Vision Test your vision with 3 different eye charts

    .

This Snellen chart is sized for use at 10 feet which makes it more convenient for testing in a home and for printing on a letter size printer. The Jaeger test is designed for use at 14". I print them out using the pdf print actual size option.

    .

It seems to me that testing on a computer, tablet, or phone is more difficult as the image size can vary depending on the device used.

I see what you're saying. This particular one I use takes screen size into account, as well as the distance from the device to the eye. It's quite cool.

I don't see how you can test for distance vision without using a significant distance from the eye to the chart. Even 10 feet is probably pushing it...

The only actual app used was the J&J app that was designed to show you what kind of near, intermediate, and distance vision you could expect in a real world setting depending on which one of their lenses you chose. It was an absolutely terrible representation of the Eyehance lens. I love my Eyhance lenses, but if I had made my decision based solely on that app, I wouldn't have even considered them.

I've had good luck with eye charts online. The best one I found, and I wish I had saved the link, had a circle and a straight line on it. If the circle measured 1 inch, and the line was as long as the top edge of a credit card, you had the correct size font. I really liked that extra assurance. I used it to test my first eye a few days after surgery, and the results were in line with my one week follow-up a few days later.

Oh, I was just referring to vision testing apps like a Snellen or Jaeger test, and not really a lens selection or testing app like what I think you're referring to in terms of the J&J app. I didn't know those existed. Interesting to know though. Thanks for sharing.
