Haven't slept properly for months

Hey all, so as the title suggests I haven't slept properly for months. I probably average between 3 - 4 hiurs a night, and on very rare occasions I do actually sleep, but wake up really really early. But recently its been getting worse and I have done everything I can without going to the doctors to sleep. For example the other night I had a herbal sleep tea and took some herbal tablets (Nightol here in the UK) then I had a hot bath and I mediated to relaxing music an hour before bed. After doing all that I was super super tired, to the point I was nearly passing out from being tired, the second I laid down in bed to go to sleep I was wide awake, like someone had injected Caffeine straight into me. I'm reluctant to go to the Doctor as I hate the thought of having to take prescription stuff to sleep, and I'm not very keen on the side effects. Anyone got any suggestions, as this is really affecting me and my mood and I get very shirt tempered with friends and family and at work which is not good in retail.

I too have suffered with insomnia for many years, which has severely affected my mood. I’d like to suggest a book called Overcoming insomnia and sleep problems by Colin A Espie. This was recommended to me by my CBT Practitioner. It has totally changed my outlook on my sleep problems. It is a programme using cognitive behavioural techniques. The author is a Professor who specialises in this area and works with the sleep council so really knows his stuff. It does involve some work on your part, but certainly for me it has been worth it to address my problem of many years. It is available on amazon. Good luck & best wishes.

Hi.
The EffortkessSleeo Nethod also a good book. Try the 1 a night Nytol ( not the herbal ones as they are useless) in a blue box. They won’t hurt you they may help you get into a sleeping pattern. If I’ve had a reasonable nights sleep I don’t take them but it’s reassuring to know they are there if you need them. I took one last night but the first time for a week in the beginning I was taking them every night! 💤

I'm having trouble waking up too soon, too. And like you I wake up not refreshed, but not sleepy enough to go back to sleep. Annoying as hell.
I don't have any advice, (if I did I wouldn't have these problems anymore), but know you're not alone.
Sometimes those problems go away just as unexpectedly as they arrived, so maybe time will help. In the meantime try to minimise thinking about sleep as much as possible. Insomnia's a beast that feeds on attention.
Good luck, hope to never hear from you anymore. (That would mean you're all right.)

Same problem. Haven't slept more than 3 or 4 hours in the last couple weeks. Always feel tired all day and think yes I'm going to sle3p great tonight and as soon as I lay down boom I'm wide awake. Now I have sleep anxiety because I dread the thought of having to go to bed because I just associate my bed with an anxiety inducing area so I've started to try and sleep on my couch and that hasn't worked either. I too don't want to take prescription drugs for sleep. I've tried the meditation and music therapies and still nothing works.
