having a bad day

Not really sure why I'm posting as there isn't anything anyone can do but I'm having a bad day. Have been signed off work for 3 months and desperate to get back. Just been to occupational health who won't let me go back for at least another month. So gutted and not really sure what more I can do. Feeling very deflated sad

Mazpaz - we are all here and understand.  Not that it helps but you are not alone.  Thinking of you and all the others.  Couragesmile Sue

Try to accept that this is how it is for the moment - by resting you will recharge your batteries and give your body chance to recover. If you had broken your leg you would accept the situation, wouldn't you ? Just because you can't "see" your CFS doesn't mean it isn't there !

Take this time to relax, meditate, read and be kind to yourself x

Thank you Sue and Alexi and yes you are right about the broken leg idea. The problem is that others don't see it like that. I broke down at Occy Health mainly because I am so worried about my job. She commented on how low I seemed but I couldn't quite get her to understand that it is because I'm not working. Next time I'll have to go in with a massive grin ad if I'd won the lottery! If only ....

      Hi Maz,

Sorry your feeling so low today. Worrying about losing your job must be very stressful. I am afraid that very few people understand the stress and anxiety that go with this condition.

Whenever I meet friends etc I always try to stick a smile on my face and be cheerful, but it takes a great deal of effort to do it.

The down side of that is that you get comments like " he was fine the other day when I saw him" " he needs to get a grip" etc etc.

Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow.

Thanks Rob, I'm not good at putting on that face at the moment but know what you mean. Had the report through and to be fair it's written ok. I think I'm gutted with myself that I've let this beat me. I managed 15 years without such a bad relapse. The reasons for it were in fairness beyond my control which has made it all the more frustrating. Off on a pacing workshop tomorrow which will be interesting as usually I've found workshops too generalised and not feasible when working - but this time I have at least a month to practice the advice... keep thinking positively and put on that smile...rolleyes

its so easy to feel so low when this happens, but try look at it from a positive view, you have 3 months off work, you can relax and unwind, and enjoy some time to recoup and have a bit of you time ( i'm actually bit jelous lol) Its also great that you can work, so again another positive, things could be worse, many have to give up their jobs or cant get a job, .

it will pass so quickly, and you will feel better for the rest and hopefully be able to do your job more efficiently. £ motnhs is nothing either just a fews, i remeber saying that about xmas, and it flew by.

And as you say it may not be 3 months, may only be a month, and that will defo whizz by. And the point about a broken leg is so true, nothing you can do about it, you cant go back in time, whats happened has happened, but its not the end of the world either. Fefinately dont spend time and energy worrying about, as worry creates more worry and stress and achieves nothing at all, plus it could prevent you from getting better. BIG HUGS TO YOU.

Thanks Nichola, I've already been off 3 months so had psychologically geared myself up for getting back to work, but it's true it could be worse and at the moment I do still have a job - assuming management don't give up on me and force me out eventually. You hear so many stories of that happening - especially in my field. Really appreciate the time people are taking to respond as it is helping so big thanks!

its so hard to be positive when you feel so low, when i have a flare up it instantly  make sme feel so low and negative.

i have been doing a lot of self help stuff, and now keep a journal and write down every day 10 things i am graeteful for, this could be as simple as being thankful for your legs, arms, etc, or comfy bed, sleep, food, family, dog, gentle walks etc etc.

it helps me put things into perspective and change snegative self talk x

Mazpaz, ME is a disease like Rheumatoid Artritis or Multiple Schlerosis. Ther are a number os supplements which will help you. I have had it for many many years, studdied many medical texts. Duloxitine should help give you a lift and help your brain to ignore the pain to a certain extent. With ME your whole body is affected by a lack of energy. Many vitamins and minerals are very low in many people with the disease.I take..Vitamin D  Vitamin B6  Vitamin b12 Alpha Lipoic Acid, Caranatine....Co enzyme 10 and also an all purpose vitamin and mineral. You will find trace amounts of Zinc and Magnesium will help as well.. I am not one to swallow anything by any means. However journal after journal reports of so many patients with ME suffering from many essential  substances as the illness stops the body from processing a lot of essentials from their food intake.

Please dont take my word for it ; look up  each of these supplements in regard to

ME. The internet makes you spell Myalgic Encephalomyelitis in Google. I expect everyone knows that !!

The thing is , I am still fighting away and making tiny footsteps.

I am sorry to hear how hopeless you feel. Make sure your doctors knows this as well.

    Regards Mitty.

That is how so many of us are, which makes me so angry when the socalled professionals claim that we are 'just depressed' or just 'tired of it all'. All we want is to get On with our lives, and we are often very energetic people.

It sounds like you have to take this break. So my advice would be to find something to get interested in, to take your mind off the fact that you cannot work right now. Accept it, it saves So Much energy! Try, do please try.

Well just to update I attended the CFS pacing workshop today and basically if my manager doesn't support me I am stuffed as there is no way I can continue to do the job without some pacing of some sort. I also now know that if I can't put the pacing in place, the support will end as that is what the therapy is mainly based on.

So now I feel miserable again! But I have just reread the previous comments again and basically it's out of my hands (Occy Health report was sent today) so as has been suggested, there is no point in wasting energy on worrying about things that I have no control over!

So, next to the vitamin suggestion - Funnily enough I was diagnosed with a low count of vitamin D this time last year and had to be put on a high dose 6 month course. The problem I have though is that I am soya, lactose and fructose intolerant so alot of the vitamin suppliments are out for me. But I might bring it up again with the doctor next week.

Dear God , that really stinks. I gather you are in the US. In Britain once you are properly diagnosed with certain diseases, then you cannot be restricted by your employer. If they did, then they would face laws of discrimination and be severly fined. You are " damned if you look after yourself and damned if you don`t "

A true Catch 22 situation. ME is catching, contagious "see Hummingbird ".

Your employer is shooting himself in the foot if a disease wipes out his staff.

Tell him/her to read the situation regarding the Royal Free Hospital in the UK

Please try to get some help with supplements, I am sure you will be low in Magnesium and Zinc and Q Enzyme 10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid. . I know you are restricted but a good look through Google could bring rewards.

Best wishes and whatever  you do don`t give up. Mitty

      Hi

No I'm in the UK but due to the job I do there are only so many "reasonable adjustments" that can be made and managers can and frequently do ignore Occ Health advice. The problem we have is that "reasonable" isn't clearly defined and is wooly so there is a get out clause. Yes I could take them to court and challenge but the evidence I would need to back up is alot. What tends to happen is that managers take ill staff down the competency route. This is a much easier way to get rid of staff and can be easily done.

At the end of the day what will be will be but I do think the lack of support and money given to investigate this illness is a disgrace.
