Having a C2 fracture repair am terrified

i am having my C2 fusion fracture repair at the walton neuro centre. the side affect can include stoke, paralysis or death. i am absolutely terrified. can anyone who has had this op please put my mind at rest. i have been told to do a living will and i am also getting a DNR put in place please help

    I have just been having a look at this op and obviously I'm not in USA so maybe different here but it reads as an operation with risks but all operations carry risks, some more than others but no mention of death.

      HI Alexandria, yes i have a neck brace on 24/7 for 19 weeks now but as the two parts of C2 are not knitting, my only option is to have the operation. my surgeon said that unfortunately where he has to insert the screws, in both places is where an artery winds through that vertebrae. if he hits it, I'll either have a stroke or a massive bleed. they cant use bone cement as the spinal nerves from the brain come too close to where the fracture is. he said my bones in neck are in such a state, it will be like putting screws in rotten wood. So obviously i am a nervous wreck.
