I hear you. Mine started about 4 years ago. I watch what I eat, take magnesium citrate, baths with Epsom Salts and take stool softeners. I can't remember what life was like before all this started. It's really hard to explain to people why this is so horrible and life altering. On bad days I just say I have stomach trouble and I assume they think I have IBS.

have you spoken to a crs? is your sphincter too tight? do you have a lot of scar tissue?

i know you said before you can't have LIS but if your area is too tight, then you need LIS and if you have too much scar tissue, the sphincter won't stretch, so you need a fissurectomy for that. also ask your CRS about self dilation, it helps stretch the sphincter, promotes blood flow and reduces pain

Hi Nicole Believe me, I feel your pain and hope my suggestion will be of help to you. I had fissure surgery a few years ago. It was a success for about two years. The problem has since come back, but not as sever as before but it still hurts a lot from time to time.

Last year I came down with what the doc thought was IBS, I don’t have IBS but am very sensitive and watch what I eat. Anyway, the doctor prescribed Dicyclomine another name is Bentyl by prescription only.

Dicyclomine can really help reduce the fissure pain. After the bathroom while I’m still hurting down there, I take half a Dicyclomine (you may need a whole tabled.) It takes about 30 minutes for the pain to go down to where it feels almost gone.

What it does for me it reducess the pain to such a degree that I can go about my day and not spend hours on the sofa. I then only feel a slight numbness it has reduced the pain for me so much, I hope it may help others with this fissure affliction. You can find info on google search, but no mentions that it can help reduce the pain for fissures as well.

Good luck to you and all who are suffering.

Please go for colonoscopy. I was told I had a fissure and suffered for over a year. I finally got a colonoscopy and found out I have rectal cancer. Now I am having my rectum removed and will have a bag put on. I listened to my colon surgeon and he was WRONG.. go for colonoscopy just to be sure.

    Hi Nicole,

I am in the same boat as you - so miserable. I have had this issue for about 8 months now on and off and I can’t seem to figure it out. I know that it started with a very large BM (Christmas time) but also maybe a weakened pelvic floor? (At the time this started I was 4 months postpartum) I originally thought hemorrhoids and actually had one banded (that dr said it wasn’t a fissure and basically talked me out of my issues) the pain persisted and I saw a proctologist instead who confirmed fissure and prescribed me nifedipine - after a few weeks of using this I noticed improvement and was actually pain free for almost 2 months. On top of using this I eat a very clean diet, drink lots of water, eat prunes and drink detox tea every night. On top of all of this I have been on a stool softener everyday since this began. I’ve also used “Fissure Control” which has great reviews but I don’t feel it’s done much for me.

Anyways, I recently had a large BM and I am back to square one. In so much pain and so defeated. I am back to using the cream and cleaning myself with prep H wipes and warm water only. I just can’t figure out why my BM changes basically everyday but nothing I do seems to get them soft enough so I am battling this everyday. I am not constipated as I go every single morning and I do not strain. It’s just the size that keeps re tearing me. I am terrified of the Botox or LIS since I know they don’t have great success rates and come with their own complications. I just don’t know what to do. I’m contemplating pelvic floor therapy, I’m just lost.

I also really want more kids and I am terrified of pregnancy/labor with all of these issues.

I hope you have found some relief! i am praying for healing

hang in there. it's a terrible pain that takes a long time to heal .

sitting in hot water seems to help with pain management.

I have suffered for 40 years (I am 59) It was totally overtaking my life and I feel so much of your pain. Over the years I have used every over the counter product, taken sitz baths, used all the different creams etc. no luck. I have been for three examinations at hospital and they did not help. As I suffer from fissures along with hemmoroids I was having constant pain and bleeding several times a week. Last summer I had my worst episode when an internal hemmoroid ruptured and I was so scared I rang my doctor's office. They were not seeing anyone face to face but she said she would write a prescription for the strongest medicine. I am now eleven months on and I have had one minor incident in January but nothing else. I feel absolutely overjoyed. Here is my solution - since last summer I have taken one sachet of Movicol solution (may be a different name in US) at night and as I never feel the need to go to the bathroom I use one glycerin suppository to kick start the process! (sorry if this is TMI). To reduce all pain and swelling I use Scheriproct Suppositories (which I get from my GP) I started using two a day and now I only use them about once a month if I have any sort of twinges etc.) The most recent thing was to take one tablet a day to promote good vein health, this helps not only leg veins but also veins in the lower regions (again TMI!) I buy them from an online health food website, but you can get them at most stores. I drink water constantly and try to eat a little salad each day. I have changed to lactose free products and only drink decaff coffee etc (I don't know if the dietary changes have anything to do with the results). I HOPE THIS HELPS.
