Having a THR on the 2nd sept. Feeling worried about outcome and possible dislocation

Can anyone advise me. I am having a total hip replacement (cementless) on the 2nd sept. I am 44yrs old. I was born with hip dysplacia and I know have severe arthritis in the hip joint. I am really worried about the outcome and the possibility of dislocation. Also having to sleep on your back for six weeks seems total torture. Can anyone calm my nerves and let me feel I am at least making the right decision in having this operation at such a young age. It is a real worry :-(

I'm 58 and 7 weeks post op. My big issues were leg length discrepancy and being awake during surgery. Sleeping on my back was not her less issue, but actually I've managed well with pillows under my head nd shoulders and under my lower legs. My husband has been relegated to the sore room which has helped me not to worry about his loss of sleep. I generally got only 2-3 hours at a time initially but now I can go as long as 5 hours. I haven't had my post op check yet, so still sleeping on my back until the Consultant says different. My legs do not appear to have any discrepancy at all nd I was not awake during the surgery, spinal and sedation were brilliant. I know I'm not as young as you, but although I still get post op discomfort, especially if I try to hard, my mobility has improved and the old pain has definitely gone. I'm sure that I did the right thing and I'm looking at long distance walks that were not an option for years! They wouldn't offer it unless they thought it would make things better or you. x

Thankyou for your reply it is very reassuring to here you are coming along nicely. I am dreading the boredom too as I am usually quite active. But, needs must. I do hope the six weeks will fly by. My pillows are at the ready.  I think I am prepared, although I am not sure mentally I am! Haha. I have been struggling and accommodating my lack of movement for about for about 4 years now so I have just got to get on with it.   X
