Having bad few days

Hi group
I hope your all doing well. I'm having a bad few days, I had to start another antibiotic on sunday night and only took have of what it called for to see how it went and had dizziness all day Monday, then took the whole dose on Monday night and had bad dizziness all day yesterday and still today. I can't even describe how it feels, its like i'm constantly moving no matter what I do. Also having a headache. The antibiotic is metronidazole gel. I look up the side effects and dizziness is one of them. I called my gyno's office and asked about it and the nurse said oh no this doesn't cause that becasue it stays local in the wall, but looking it up online dizziness is there. Besides I wonder how in the heck something you put inside your body doesn't go into the blood stream to clear up the bacteria. My son in low is taking the same thing for an intestinal bacteria except his is a pill not a gel and he has been crazy dizzy and can't explain how it feels either. So I'm sure wether its a gel or pill side effects are the same. So here I sit at work and everytime I move I feel it, and making myself crazy thinking about it. But as you all know, you can't just turn off the dizzy thinking so well. I just hope when i get done with this stuff the dizziness stops.
You know how it is to have the dizziness get to you, brings you down.

Hi patty I have vestibular neuritis. It causes dizziness every day. I was having a good day today at work. Then I called at my local shop on the way home then when I bent forward felt like I was gonna pass out. I still feel like it now. I'm gonna do my VR exercises see if that helps. I've had no symptoms all day at work and now I've got a weeks worth all at once. Wish I could have a magic pill to stop this. Hope your ok. Gill. Xxx

The good news is that the side effect you are having should disappear after you stop it. If u can, try to finish it- maybe take some time off or take some benadryl if it doesn't make u sleepy. Sometimes benadryl has helped my dizziness. And drink lots of water to help flush this out (but don't overdo it). I can't remember if u said you had a uti. If so, I regularly drink cranberry juice diluted with water. It's the only juice I like, but I haven't had a uti in 27yrs.

I'm going to finish it. It's for a overgrowth of my own bacteria in the vaginal wall. I took the cipro for the uti. I guess I'm just worried that the dizziness is not from it and something else, silly I know. I also keep thinking what if it's the propranolol, I've been on 20mgs for almost 3 weeks and wondering if it could cause dizziness now. I was doing good in it, at least stops the anxiety and slows some dizziness. Then I started the antibiotic and the dizziness got worse so I'm going with it's the antibiotic.

Yes, just trust in the fact that it's the antibiotics. It will go away. You may want to consider a probiotic during and after the antibiotics. That's what my daughter's doctor tells her- she gets lots of sinus infections.
The propranolol should not cause the kind of dizziness you have. It can cause some lightheadedness when standing up quickly, but this is not rocking or spinning dizziness. But it will say dizziness ( meaning the lightheaded feeling ) on the side effect profile. Sometimes when I stand quickly after sitting awhile, my head feels pressurized for a few seconds, but it goes away. It only happens in the few hrs after I take the propranolol. I take 40mg, short acting, once a day.

Thank you for the info on the antibiotics. I knew it fee=lt different like it was being intensified by the antibiotic. I also thought the propranolol wouldn't cause a constant dizzy feeling. its the oddest feeling like I;m constantly moving no matter what position i'm in, along with that awful dropping feeling and this will sound wierd but you know how a cat neades its paws into things, well it feels like that when I sit like its happening on my butt, i know wierd right?
I think what made things worse is when I called the gyno about it the nurse said no its doesn't cause dizziness, but reading the leaflet that came with the meds it says dizziness, so I'm going with the leaflet. Now I just wonder how long it takes for the meds to leave the body.
I apprecite the info you've given me, you've been so helpful. I hate being this big chicken I've turned in to.

You're not a big chicken! When I'm in the dizzy boat, it's terrible, and people without it just don't understand. I have been doing VERY, VERY good. I am thinking the progesterone I was on for 3yrs was the culprit. I now have terrible insomnia and sweating without the progesterone, but I'll take that anyday over the dizzies. Plus, I do thing the propranolol has helped as well, but needed to stop the progesterone to see full improvement. I still cannot eat all the foods I've had NO problem with my whole life! So I will say that it is a combination of things that have helped. No one thing seemed effective on its own. I have tried some of my major no-no foods since stopping the progesterone, and I do begin to get migraine symptoms, and mild dizziness. The physical therapy for my jaw/neck helped TREMENDOUSLY. I had absolutely no faith that it would help, but it surprised me. It is beginning to bother me again, so I will probably start physical therapy again. I have accepted and had it explained to me that I may need to go to phys therapy off/on over time.
As far as what the nurse said at the gyno's: In my experience, I have had medical doctors insist to me that a side effect that i know is coming from the medication is NOT a side effect. This is actually more common than not, in my experience. Then you research it online, and boom- there it is! Usually the pharmacist will admit that a certain side effect is really associated with a med. I think the drs are frustrated with patients going online to research everything, getting scared ahead of time, and then not taking their medications. But some of us do get the unusual reactions. I am one of those, and a pharmacist explained it to me once- something about being a poor metabolizer of certain drugs.

Thanks for understanding the big chicken! I totally understand how others who don't have this can't understand it, its hard enough for me to understand a lot of it, other than the dizziness, boy I understand that. I do try to explain to people its not just dizziness thats a problem, its so many other aspects like, memory, anxiety, body aches.
You said you went to physical therapy, what type of therapist helped you? I did massage therapy earlier on my neck, but I could stand laying face down, it made me dizzier, but it did help some, of course at that point my anxiety was so high I could barely do anything. I did go to the chiropractor for 3 months and he worked on my neck, but he was using this little thing on the muscles on the tops of my shoulders and it would vibrate through there and when I had the BPPV hit in his office I quit because the vibrations from other things bothered me and I would feel dizzy for days sometimes after the adjustments. So maybe the therapy you had could be worth looking into, if you don't mind sharing the info.
Your probably right about the meds and people being able to research before taking them, I'm sure the doctors are fed up with people seeing the side effects before and not wanting to try them, I know Im that way, but I always at least try them. But what got me was it was on the paperwork I got from the pharmacy when I picked it up so I new dizziness was a side effect. I also had to take into effect she doesn't know about the MAV and how things can effect it.
Are you only taking propranolol now? I am only on 20mgs once a day right now, but I think the doc will up it when I go back in a couple of weeks.

Hi Patty,
That happened to me with an antibiotic and I stopped the drug on my own. I took it in the evening and couldn't get up on the morning. As soon as the drug was out of my system - I was fine. I have BPPV and the drug gave me similar dizziness. I stopped it and then went to Dr. And he switched my med. Hoping yours is just a side effect cause it was easier for me to get over than the orher. Some drugs stay working in your system for a week after. 😆

HI Diannalynn
Thanks for the reply. Its awful how things effect us and how we or at least I can't even trust my own judgement anymore on things. I do hope it stops after the meds are out of my system.
