Having biopsy in a few days

Hi, bit concerned. 51 years old. PSA level increased from 3.3 to 4.8 over last couple of months. Had MRI and it came back with PI RAD 4 with a 7mm area of concern from urologist so having biopsy, so I reckon heading towards not so good news as other symptoms of late night very early toilet visits needed and during the day more than what I thought would be normal. Also with a bit of history urinating blood but had this checked out with camera down penis and specialist said that due to my long distance running broken blood vessels causing bleeding!!!!. Now I am starting to wonder and with other results concerned.

Don't forget that, even if there are some cancer cells detected, most prostate cancer is unaggressive and doesn't always even need treatment. I have lived OK with Gleason 6 cancer for several years without treatment. I'm 68. My psa has reduced now so no need for further check before a year has gone by. You may not be so lucky, but then again......

Anyway keep calm and I wish you good luck!

Hi, PSA do not that high. Mine was 4.9 then 6.8 now 5.3. I too am booked for biopsy in a few weeks.

Suggest you investigate options forvtupe if biopsy. I have chosen trans perineal by an eminent urology consultant and Professor. But I’m going private (very expensive) as I’m not covered by NHS.

Regarding toilet visits, you might have enlarged prostate as I do. Biopsy might give more info on that.

I’ve heard doctors say we are in grey zone based on PSA results but MRI showing nodule or lesion means they want to know what it’s made of. Let’s hope our lumps are both benign.

    Good luck.

Your PSA is low, I went 5 years on Active Surveillance at over 10, until Prostate grew to the extent I could not pass water even after a TURP and had it removed this year.  Don't worry too much and as others say it is not agressive, ensure they give you Antibiotics before and after your biopsy as high risks of Sepsis for this procedure.

Sounds like you have prostatitis. If the doctor doesn't mention this, ask him.

To add to the good comments by other commentators, my brief research showed two types of biopsy: trans rectum (previously the main one), and now trans perineal (new way). I read that trans perineal has less risk of infection. My urologist surgeon in UK said he hadn’t done a trans rectum for 8 years. If you have the choice investigate the perineal needle biopsy.

I was OK after two trans-rectal biopsies. Had preventive antibiotics before and after and no complications.

Hi, thanks for the positive comments but everything is leading to maybe not so good news fairly high PSA for age, 4/5 PI RADS score, history of night sweats, history of blood in urine and frequent toilet stops, could be lucky!!!Anyway having trans perineal biopsy under general in 2 days then another 2 days for results.
