Having Circumcision on Monday

Posted , 5 users are following.

Am going to have this procedure..3rd time it's been organised now due to various reasons.

I wonder though, am I awkward for expecting some dignity. Yesterday had my pre assessment and had to provide a groin swab. The nurse did not offer to leave the room so had to stand and face the window to do it with a degree of privacy. I now dread the indignity of an operation where am laid out in front of strangers. It's all very well doctor s and nurses saying it's nothing they haven't seen before... But? it's my body, my illness and my embarrassment. Sometimes i d rather ignore my health and die. I just wish there was some way of giving the patient respect

So

..Does anyone else get this fear?

As a teenager and in my early twenties, yes. However, once I'd gone through supporting my wife with pregnancy and childbirth, seeing what she had to put up with, and then eventually deciding to go for a vasectomy, I lost the embarassment. Fortunately it was many years before further intimate examinations and treatments were required. Now, after several times of urine retention and catheterisation, I realise, I'm only too grateful that medical professinals are willing to see and handle my private parts!

Yes...I had this same feeling when I had a hydrocele operation last July. Once you "go under", of course there will be lots of people in the operating room. But each one of them has a specific assignment. And their main goal is to insure a safe surgery for you. Never wish for death instead of an operation that can help you live healthier. As members jorock and ml66uk always stress in this forum, we men should never be ashamed of showing our penises to doctors and nurses because they have seen it all...and have seen worse. Women go through much worse than we can ever go through during an exam. Yeah, we may think it's a bit embarrassing that strangers will look at us while we're laid out in that operating room. But you can best believe, your health is their main concern. And to me, that's our patient respect. They want us to have a successful surgery and swift recovery. Good luck on Monday, and please come back to let us know how things went.

Tnx for that... However, I ll never accept that I ll forgo respect and decency because the nurse or doctor has seen it all before..The point is, it's my penis, my private part. Women never put up with this from a man

You sound more angry than embarassed. I'd be very emotional at the prospect of losing my foreskin. Was there no other choice?

I feel screwed at the moment, bullied etc

I completely understand your feelings, just gone through many of those same feelings myself. I've had to expose my Penis to more people, women Doctors and assistants included, in the past two months than in my entire 61 years of life. Having to deal with the emotion of that was as real as dealing with why I was there. Check my posting of Glans Penis Biopsy for more specifics.

It really has helped being on this Forum sharing and being encouraged. I do understand the encouragement that 'it's just another penis, and they've seen a lot of the'. But I also get the feeling, but this one is mine, and I'm very selective of who gets to see mine'.

The harsh reality is, it will be necessary to go through it, it's well worth the anxiety and or embarrassment to know what is going on and if it's truly serious. Mine could have been, and likely would have turned very bad if I hadn't gone through the ordeal. I still have more Dr visits to go to and will 'grin and bear it, as they say, because keeping my Penis healthy is still very important to me and my wife.

Cheers my friend and learn from the experience...
