Exercise
This was written for POST-op strength building keeping in mind that the muscles have atrophied and that you have to build endurance before strength.
For you at the pre-op stage, ignore all of that and just go right to the exercises for the supporting musculature: quads, glutes, core, abductors, adductors, abdominals. Find your comfortable starting weight for each and do 3 sets of 10. Easy? Then 3 sets of 12 or 15. Easy? Up the weight and go back to 10 reps. Keep progressing to get as strong as possible before the surgery.
There's no magic to this, just hard work and determination.

kmelish,
My TKR is scheduled for May 13. My first knee was replaced in 2016. Based on that experience, suggest strengthening both legs prior to surgery as well as increasing your endurance. There are many excellent exercise routines on the internet. Try different ones until you find your comfort zone. With a little over a month to wait, I am increasing my exercise routines with additional chair and wall squats, daily walking using a cane, and stationary bike. Do as much as possible prior to surgery for a faster and complete rehab. Best wishes and blessings for a successful outcome. Regards, RJ.
