Having trouble getting surgery approved because I'm young

Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm 22 and my wrist has been in a brace since September. The MRI shows my wrist is fractured and I have torn ligaments along with a tendon that's moved from it's normal position. I've tried everything, meds, biologics, cortisone injections, etc. I met with a hand surgeon and he believes my best option would be to get a total wrist fusion, but due to me moving 8 hours away and changing insurances, he was unable to perform the surgery. He warned me that it's probably going to be hard to find a surgeon willing to operate on me due to my age since it's such a major surgery. It's severely impacting my life. A job recently denied me because of my wrist. I'm at my wits ends and just want some relief.

i suffer PsA and that effects the tendons, nerves and ligaments they prescribe Amytryptalene for the nerve damage etc, it seems to work and I have been on them now for over fifteen years. The drug is an antidepressent and the relief it causes is a contraindication.

All I can suggest is try and stick with the Specialist who will perform the procedure, if you need further remedial treatments and Physo try and arrange that in your hometown. after surgery.

At 22 your bones are still forming, this ends generally when 27/ 29 year is reached. Before this time many procedures can be left until your bones have formed because procedures can cause many problems at this time

    Have you PsA ?

Do you currently have insurance?” If yes then find out if your insurance requires referrals to specialists. If not Look for a orthopedic hand doctor in you area and see if they Require referral to their office. Do you have a GP established there? If not get one ASAP. Because one doctor says they won’t do it doesn’t mean another will do the same. But with you moving and changing insurances and stuff it makes it a little more challenging to find someone. You might also when you find orthos in your area call your old doctor and see if they recommend anyone over another. I have worked on the doctors side and currently work on the insurance side and it isn’t fun but necessary evils on both sides.  Got any questions I might could help you with let me know 😊. Good luck.
