Hawthorn Berry or Celery Seed supplement and betablocker

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi,

I was wondering whether Hawhtorn Berry supplement or Celery Seed extract can be taken alongside betablocker (Nebivolol in my case)? I am going through a really stressful period recently and I've been having some palpitations and I believe that my BP has also been elevated because of these recent stressors and I am looking for some natural supplement I can take for a little while before my situation will go back to normal. Are there any risks associated with taking either of them together with a betablocker?

Thank you for help.

jacas...the best person to ask this question is your PHARMACIST. They know what conflicts & doesn't conflict with medicines. Unless someone on this forum is a doctor, we are not qualified to advise you on this one way or the other. Believe it or not, a lot of people think that because something is a herb, it's harmless. This couldn't be further from the truth. Do yourself a favour...consult the PHARMACIST.

I know that just because something is a herb it doesn't mean it's harmless, that's why I asked this question. Also I live in UK and most pharmacists here have no idea what they are talking about and refer you from one useless doctor to another, hence why I often prefer to ask others with similar condition/experience of taking same supplements for advice.

betablockers usually conflicts with herbs and natural supplements. I would be careful with mixing both, as one the symptoms is racing heart.

    Hi Jacas

I've taken Hawthorn supplement alongside Hydrochorothiazide (water pill) with no adverse side effects however I didn't see a noticable improvement either, the one natural thing that I did try and I'm still doing is drinking Hibiscus tea daily it seems to work well for me, I talked it over with my specialist at the heart Clinic and he saw no problem in using it and I notice that my bP is more even ( much less spikes) and if I'm having an extra stressful day I just drink a bit more. It was suggested to me that I drink 2 - 5 glasses a day depending on how I'm feeling. I generally make myself a pot every 1 to 2 days and keep it in the fridge, it's a bit tart so I often add 1/4 juice or gingerale to it and sip it all day.

Just like medication not all natural products work for every one but the side effects are usually much more minimal so I'd say try it out, start small and go from there

    : ) All the best
