Head and Body pain for the past 5 weeks causing sleep disturbances.

Hello all,

Im grateful I've found somewhere I can share my symptoms. My aim is to discover the cause of what is happening, and to see if there are others out there going through a similar issue.

I'm a 26 year old male, healthy, 86kg, live in Western Australia. I go to gym, play footy, eat healthy and work as an electrician.

For the past 5-6 weeks i've been having issues with my body, and it seems to be related to sleep.

I have no trouble falling asleep, but about 6-8 times a night I wake from my sleep with weird pains/symptoms.

Head pain:

Similar to a painful headache but it doesnt really throb, it feels as if there is a vice grip on my head.

It feels as if someone is pushing the back of my head forwards into my chest.

Usually there is a Zapping/Twitiching feeling at the back of my head.

There is also pressure/pain behind my eyes. Its a weird sensation and almost feels as if the pressure is moving. Its painful if i try to move my eyes around, especially upwards.

It feels as though my ears are blocked and if i swallow it feels like it clears something in my ears.

Occassionally i hear a high pitched tinnitus sound in the ears.

Along with this, I am often drenched in sweat, even though the temperature of the room im sleeping in is always cold.

Also along with this i feel aches in my body. Especially in my spine/neck. But sometimes in my arms, legs and chest. Also i get burning sensations in my feet.

Im not having nightmares or bad dreams, and Im not stressed about anything, when this is all happening im not panicking, i just lay there and wait for it to pass. Its just a hindrance that its robbing me of my sleep!

When morning comes, I feel totally unrefreshed from my sleep.

During the day, i have had very noticeable fatigue, i struggle to exert myself, my body aches all over, feeling like inflammation, especially my neck, spine (between the shoulder blades), legs and arms. I have very noticeable weakness.

I feel dizzy in the head and feel like I have trouble concentrating, as if my head feels foggy.

I can't do the things i normally can do, its affecting me a lot physically. When i go to the gym, I usually can run 5km on the treadmill and then go lift weights. Now im absolutely stuffed after walking on the treadmill for 1.5kms.

My legs feel numb and tingley, and my calves are constantly tired and sore, it feels like my body is inflamed and isnt healing properly or something.

Ive lost 5kgs in the past 5 weeks. With no change in diet.

I've had a CAT Scan which showed there was a small 3mm calcification on my left falx, saying it was likely a meningioma.

The doctor said that this is incidental and not likely causing the symptoms.

I had an MRI and everything came back fine except for underdeveloped frontal sinuses.

I had blood tests done which came back fine, except my iron levels were quite low. For which my doctor said to take an iron pill for the next month and increase red meat in the diet.

Some additional info: At work I crawl in dirty roof spaces and underneath houses very often. Amongst spiders and dirt, so i wonder if these symptoms could relate to a spider or tick bite?

Also in my last game of football for the year, approximately 3 weeks prior to all these symptoms. I copped a pretty hard knock to the head/chin, causing some whiplash. But managed to continue on playing fine. So the doctor said I may have post-concussion syndrome symptoms.

Is it possible Ive done damaged my spine or neck?

And so this is where im up to at this point, the doctor has referred me to a Neurologist, which the appointment is in two weeks time.

This has all happened just as i was about to start a two month holiday from work to go travelling. So I havent had to go to work through this pain, although im hoping it gets better/we find what is wrong before i have to return to work.

Thanks for taking the time if you read through all of this, I hope maybe this can help other people going through similar problems and hopefully I can get closer to finding whats the matter.

Cheers.

Hi. By no means am i a doctor but have you had yourself checked for lyme disease. Tick bites can do some funny things to the body but this is only a thought. Spider bite, highly unlikely. I've never known a spider bite to present those kind of symptoms. Good luck. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Thanks Michelle, I'll definitely look into that and raise it with the doc next visit.

I was just thinking the same thing. Get yourself checked out for Lyme disease and see what the rest results say about this. In the meantime wait until you see the neurologist and hopefully he can get to the bottom of all of this. Get lots of rest, take your iron pills every day and drinks lots of water and get plenty of rest and eat more red meat 🥩 and if you're not much of a meat 🥩 eater there's other ways to get iron into your diet. Maybe talk to your boss about all of your symptoms and see if he'll give you some time off and get a letter from your doctor saying that you need to take a leave of absence from work due to health problems so that you can take care of yourself and get the rest that you need and maybe take it easy with working out at the gym every day, maybe just do lots of walking and take a break from the gym for a while. Let's us know what the neurological testing results are. In the meantime take care of yourself. We are all here for you

It was really no problem at all to read your post it was rather interesting to read it all since I've never heard anything like this before I'm quite curious to know what the neurological testing will reveal. In the meantime you take care of yourself and make sure you report back to us once you have seen the neurologist so we can have some idea of what is happening with you. Cheers and have a great day. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. Take care of yourself and don't work too hard.
