Head of penis is red/painful to the touch, also has very tiny red bumps.

The head of my penis has had a slight red discoloration for several months now. It is irritated, painful to the touch, and everything I've tried so far hasn't improved the condition. I've tried hydrocortisone and clotrimazole and neither have seemed to have any meaningful impact. I've given each at least 1-2 weeks using them daily but the condition persists.

There are also small little barely noticeable bumps, not sure what those are. I've been tested for STD's and the only thing I've tested positive for is HSV1 but I don't believe this is herpes.

There is no itching at all, just discomfort and pain when I touch it. I haven't been sexually active since this started up which was a few months ago. Please let me know if you need any more information.

u were tested positive for hsv1 by swab or by blood? Do u remember getting a cold sore on your lip as a child? if so then it is extremely unlikely you would get hsv1 on your genitals.

I was tested by blood. I believe I may have gotten a cold sore when I was younger but I can't be certain.

Be careful using hydrocortisone on your dangly bits. The skin is thin and steroids see known to cause skin thinning issues possibly making your problem worse.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll stay away from them from now on. I guess I'll just continue with the clotrimazole for now, still not seeing improvement though.

Dude. My penis has the same symptoms and looks just like yours. It fluctuates on getting better and worse, daily. Some days it looks really good and reduced and some days it looks really waxy and lizard looking. We should connect cuz im trying to bring ppl who have this condition together to help find out what it is! Its been over maybe 13 months for me, I have literally scoured the internet and come upon ppl with the same symptoms and have done exactly what me and you have done with cortizone cream and fungal cream to no avail. Mine has been less painful as time has gone on but it almost always feels irritated like a skin burn or dermatitis rash. I went to a doctor who thought it was ecxema and not an STD and gave me hydrocortisone cream which I used on point for two weeks before I did research to find that those creams can thin the skin and maybe make something worse. A few things i found and want to explore myself is some ppl have shown male yeast infections with these same symptoms which might be what makes it a chronic condition. OR! The one other thing I did see was that it was related to chronic masturbation and being circumsised. I have read that this might be why they used to circumcise ppl so that something like this happens to the penis that might be keratinization . basically a hardening of the skin that is a byprodyct of turning the penis from an internal organ to an external one. Is there anything that was unusual in the very beginning? iE numbness or erectile difficulty? Have you noticed that your penis has strange sensitivities now that makes you cum very fast? Tell me some more if u can. I tried wearing 100% cotton only knit underwear and it really helps with the irritation feeling. Feel free to email me at but also leave a reply here so maybe we can help someone else looking for answers

No, I've never had any numbness or erectile difficulty. It is only painful/uncomfortable to touch, which actually makes it pretty uncomfortable to masturbate. Some days it's better than others. And there haven't been any sensitivities making me cum quicker. I was taking doxycycline around the time I began to have this condition, and I've read on other places on this site that others were also taking that antibiotic which resulted in the condition I've described. That's really the only info I have right now. I'm going to keep looking for a solution as well.

Okay so I have a similar issue except its only been a week and a half since it started. However, my penis does not look as enflammed or irrated but I am most definitely having mild numbness and trouble getting an erection. I had a one night stand with a mutual friend and she informed me after sex that she had herpes but wasnt on an outbreak and was on daily antiviral medication and that I should be fine. She stated she hasnt had an outbreak in over 8 months and that her ex that she dated for a year was fine. I began noticing somthing didnt feel right with my urethra and my penis became very small and hard because of the discomfort. The head of my penis and top of the forskin close to the head burned mildy on and off. I have no very distinguishable "herpes bumps" but still cant get fully hard. I dont know if this will subside so I can eventually get a full erection. Ive been miserable for almost two weeks... any info would help...
