Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,

I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.

I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.

I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.

I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.

I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.

What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.

Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.

Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Thanks for reading

Hey man, I really needed to see this. Since July/August 2019 I have had this high level of anxiety unlike anything I've ever known before, legitimately life crippling. Its caused me many panic attacks and gave me breathing issues. In the last year this anxiety turned into a whole new beast, first there's the constant brain fog causing an almost 100% inability to focus, like cotton wool around the brain I saw it was described as once and I would agree but cotton wool sounds pleasant, this isn't pleasant as you know. I've noticed a huge decline in my cognitive abilities as well, I'm less quick at maths, it takes me longer to read and I more often than ever before have that "word on the tip of my tongue but I cant quite catch it" feeling. The toughest part has been this completely detached from the rest of the world feeling which has appeared, one you struggle to explain to people who have never experienced it, makes you feel more lonely. To top it of I get regular tinitis and a 24/7 whirring inside my head causing sleep issues and comfort issues in general, like the world has become constant noise and there's no escape. It might be worth mentioning that these "symptoms" became much worse after I took acid for the first time and started smoking more weed all of which I no longer do. As time has passed I've learnt to be more observational of it but it still doesn't help my happiness or lack there of, what does help is seeing that you articulated into words almost a one to one experience and that does mean something to me, thanks for sharing your story, you're appreciated.

WoW! my mind is blown away. These are exactly exactly the same feelings.

I also have if I may add a certain PoP in the brain when I'm trying to fall asleep. it actually feels like I just got scared and jump my head up.

It actually makes my head jerk for a second. wow. your explanation my friend is right on point. My thoughts on these feeling are;... are these symptoms caused by the prolong use of 'VIMPAT' my seizure medication??? or maybe Any long term use of medication???

yes I agree my colleague these feelings are uncomfortable, scary, and no explanation. However I can ignore and continue life. but like you said (panic attacks) going crazy can occur. 😦 it get frustrating at times.

your "SYMPTOMS" Colleague Mayra. thank you for reading:)

Another feeling I'm dealing with is pressure in the bottom back right side of my head. With any muscle or pressure feeling. I usually press down for a minute or two. on the location and then circle movements and this will relief the uncomfortable feeling for the day or a couple of hours. jus a FYI... 🙋‍♀️😇💞😊🌍😷

    P.S. I wear a face shield no mask. 😃

I just wanted to post here and see if anyone had checked out chiari malformation? They can cause a lot of these symtoms. You would need a ct or an mri is better of the brain. If you do have one you would need to talk to a neurosurgeon who specializes in chiari malformations.

I had a baby in july of 2020 with epidural. No complications. in october out of no where i began experiencing headaches, dizziness, brain fog eye pain and vision changes. It was suddenly difficult to read i had trouble focusing in on the words. went to ER they found a chiari malformation on a ct scan and told me to ignore that finding its not related and most people live fine with it with no problems. I went to eye doctor and got glasses which slightly helped my vision and moved on. November the ear pain began. sharp stabbing pain in ears and feeling of fullness. Chalked it up to a cold. December i began having chest pain and tingling feelings on my scalp and down my neck. Janurary went to the ER again. Again blood tests are normal eeg normal chest x ray normal. February went to cardiologist echocardiogram normal covid test negative covid antibody test negative. February i had another MRI of brain and spine and chiari malformation was noted again. Decided to follow up with neurosurgeon this time since a lot of these symtoms can be related to a chiari. My case is not surgical. We are looking into maybe i have a spinal leak from epidural. Other than that I am still at a loss like all of you. I just wanted to post in case some of you

may have a chiari thats causing your issues.

Has anyone have severe insomnia on top of these symptoms. I have most of the symptoms described in the replies ( daily head pressure, fatigue , slight fever... ) but on top of all this , I can't sleep . I literally go 4-5 days most week with zero minutes of sleep no matter how hard i try and then sleep maybe two or three hours the following days (despite being on sleeping pill) . I also have tingling /burning sensation in feet and small muscle twitching from time to time.

I have done Ct scan and nothing showed up. My blood test is normal except for slightly higher gamma globilin level . My psychiatrist says he will start stress/anxiety treatment in 3 weeks, but I have a feeling its not anxiety because i dont feel particularly anxious . My life has been worst than hell the last few months . Please , someone has an idea?

Hello. I'm a 39 year old female that has lived with migraines since I was a teenager. My migraines are triggered by so many things like weather, sleeping too much and are now hormonal migraines. I've been having some other health issues that started December 2020. I had a nasty fall at a park in late November and am not sure if everything that I've been experiencing since then has anything to do with that accident. This month has been really rough. On top of all the other symptoms like facial flushing, my migraines have gotten weird. I've been feeling lightheaded for about 2 weeks and feel like my brain has come lose. I've never felt this before. I do get the occasional zap but the feeling I have know is more of constant pressure that I can't seem to shake. I started jump roping in February since I haven't been able to work out due to my other health issues. Then I thought maybe all that jumping is affecting my head so I'll be stopping that for a while. I sleep a minimum of 8 hours but know toss around a lot. An hour or two after I wake up, I feel so fatigued. I feel like I make my headaches get worse if I sleep on one side for too long. I have to keep rotating my head position. I've been feeling brain fog and despression which has been really hard for me.

I had an MRI back in 2015 when my migraines became more frequent and intense. My results were normal. My doctor doesn't seem to know what's wrong with me except she thinks it can all be attributed to my anxiety. She did refer me to a neurologist and will be getting another MRI soon. A couple of things I do is take Magnesium supplements and am looking to change my eating habits to see if I can manage my symptoms. I will also be calling a therapist to help with my depression which also stems from feeling so down physically. I do believe that a change in eating habits can be beneficial. Gut health can affect so many other parts of our body. I recently purchased the Fiber Fueled book which I can wait to put to use in my daily meals. The other thing I will start is a health journal. I want to track my symptoms by writing down my meals, how I feel, any new symptoms.

    Hope you find answers.

My face and the back of my head. Right above my eye brows. I just sit there and rub my temple all day to relieve it. It's just temporary relief

yep the pressure is in the same places you have described. my also moves around my whole head. I'm afraid to go to the doctor just to be sent to the next and hopefully one of the medications they do give you might miraculously work. hundreds of dollars later 😦 Just got to stay positive as you can and find activites to distract you.
