Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,

I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.

I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.

I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.

I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.

I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.

What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.

Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.

Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Thanks for reading

Im here in California and was just researching "head pressure" and came across this forum....

Wow, tons of similarities that I am having like the OP.

    1. Head Pressure Constantly(more left side on the top towards the back, sometimes in the front) it's almost like a numbness and fuzzy feeling.

2.Brain Fog/concentration/slight dizziness (no nausea though)

    3. Fatigued, always tired

    4. Low body temperature (96.9-97.9, sometimes 98+, constantly changes)

    5. Stiff neck

    6. Night sweats here and there

    7. Stuffy sinus

There is more but these are my main symptoms.

Before I go into this, I was relatively was healthy, although I wasn't getting proper sleep, and I was drinking beer 3-5x week and got a cold 3x a year, yet I had no symptoms... compromised immune system?perfect storm???

It all started in April 2015, with a ER visit BECAUSE I was feeling dizzy. I had a stiff neck a couple weeks prior and kept cracking my neck in a backwards motion, like hyperextension...

3 weeks before going to the ER I did 2 major things.

    1. I went into a sewer wet pit filled with insanely gross things, and it came in contact with my skin for over 2 hours... I never felt sick afterwards in the following days

    2. I went on a camping trip the following weekend of the wet pit entry and came in contact with a tick bite, although it didn't go deep in the skin, and I found it on my inner thigh after I went to take a rest from the long hike.

After the hospital visit and CT scans to show everything was normal, things seemed to be status quo with slight dizziness here and there...

Then fast forward 3 months in July, and I had a Bday dinner and ate raw oysters from various parts along the west coast in California, Oregon, etc.

I went to the ER the next day BECAUSE my sinus and throat were slightly swollen and doctors said I had a mild allergic reaction.

The following weeks or even month I remember getting 5 night sweats in a row.

NOW.... ever since those oysters, my sinus have been constantly blocked, along with occasional feeling of my throat slightly tightened.

Since then I have developed what I mentioned first above, such as head pressure, brain fog, confusion, fatigue, etc...

I've spent thousands on different medical care. I did a 3D cat scan of my jaw for any dental work since I had a root canal in my front tooth and wisdom teeth removed, but holistic dentist didn't see any infections that were abnormal to be causing what I have.

Also I've been tested for Lyme, but test came back negative.. although I hear it's hard to detect because of the type of virus it is. I'm going to.test for it again.

I also thought that it was from my neck and my hyperextension of lifting it up so far back and causing a crack in c1, c2, c3? It was one of those, I did that in order to relieve pressure... seeing a chiropractor as well and getting adjustments...

I'm seeing a naturopath now, and he did a Urine test and it came back with high levels of heavy metals, yeast (candida), and he detected parasites. Currently taking a anthelminthic to rid of parasites first...

I wanted to be as detailed as possible. Hopefully we can come to a conclusion with all this.

Your description is fairly close to mine. I had to remove my cracked tooth because my gum was swelling. But around the same time I was in different parts of Germany and swam in the lakes and went barefoot in some cleared areas.

Subsequently I started getting some kind of tightness on my forehead and started seeing with a fishbowl effect.

Do u have any vision changes?

You can definitely get a false negative on that Lymes test those are the symptoms that it causes and if you were bitten by a tick I would definitely get retested go to a special Lymes testing site I think they have one in California you can actually get your blood drawn at the lab and send it to that place in California you can look it up online my son basically has the same thing as you do and it will create havoc in your body and it hides everywhere.... and a lot of times just with your symptoms alone they can diagnose you with Lyme's disease and treat you for it I would ask the doctor if you can take a 30 day regiment of Doxycycline ...

Try a cervical pillow. I had all the symptoms in the original post and using the pillow eliminated my symptoms overtime. I bought the Tricore standard firm. My symptoms made my life miserable so I wanted to make this suggestion to as many people as possible. I wish you well.

      Hi

it seems you're suffering from adrenal fatigue .

you need to check your cortisol levels just to make sure on what stage of it you're standing .

I hope it gives a clue to you and some of other people .

      best of luck .

Did/do you have adrenal fatigue with the brain fog symptoms? If so, what did you do to recover? Thanks.

Candida Tests came back negative. I'm trying to test for other types of yeasts and gut infections soon and I will post the results here. My symptoms get worse a week or more after drinking alcohol can anyone else confirm this?

Hey there! I am a 24-year old female suffering from the same symptoms. Mostly: brain fog that comes and goes, heaviness/fullness in the head, sometimes throbbing (no pain) in the back of the head, slightly vibrating vision that persists (visual snow), and not "fatigued" but lower energy than normal, feeling high and detached, some tinnitus.

I went to the neuro opthalmologist here at Mass General to explain my symptoms, mostly to talk about the visual snow, but he said it was likely due to anxiety. He said my brain is likely hyper-aware and taking in more sensory information than it needs due to the anxiety. However, I have people in my family who suffer from anxiety and none of them have my symptoms, their anxiety consists of the classic hyperventilating, panic attack like anxiety. I oscillate between thinking all my symptoms are anxiety and thinking that there is definitely something else going on with my body that could be causing the strange sensations. I was perfectly healthy 8 months ago.

Anyways, I have became vegan since this happened for a few reasons, although it doesn't seem to help (doing it for ethical reasons as well so staying on it) and I've been taking magnesium, vitamin c, l-theanine, vitamin d (I was deficient in a blood tes t, that's all they found). The l-theanine has helped the anxiety that comes with having the symptoms, but they are basically still the same.

I'm interested in the candida theory, Amber please if you find your symptoms really going away let us know. I got quite a few UTI's and had to do a few rounds of antibiotics and I've read that can make candida much worst. Each round of antibiotics would be followed by a Yeast infection indicating that there was some type of imbalance. (Sorry if TMI)

Somebody else mentioned accutane - I went on accutane about a year and a half ago and started experiencing symptoms about a year after I stopped the medicine. Not sure if there's a correlation.

I have noticed alcohol makes it way worse- the next day sucks. I actually drank a bit last night and the hangover intensifies all of the symptoms - the brain fog is way worse, the vision symptoms are much more pronounced and the heaviness is fuller. Could this be a dehydration issue? Does anybody else hear maybe not drink as much water as they should?

Also, this is not the first blog I've looked at, and I see that it's so common for this to have started up on people within the last few years. Is this something to consider?

Any information or relief of symptoms please let us know!! Thank you.

I stopped drinking because I also think it intensifies things. However the last time I had 3 beers over the course of 5 hrs, it seemed alright (celebrating graduation).

I must add that I drink lots of water daily (at least 2 litres) and before these symptoms, I used to sip around 2-3 shots of whiskey and smoke (I have stopped drinking and smoking) almost daily.

I have also tried being on an all veg diet, to which I remember did improve on my symptoms a little

When you say that the alcohol makes it worse after, how about while you're drinking? Do the symptoms go away or are they still there?

Same! I posted earlier, but havent seen anyone mention the alcohol factor. It is MUCH worse the next day if I drank a bit too much  the night before-I contributed this to the fact that when you fall asleep after drinking you aren't getting full sleep-so maybe its a sleep factor? Other than that, nothing makes it worse or better.
