Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,

I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.

I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.

I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.

I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.

I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.

What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.

Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.

Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Thanks for reading

    Hi,

I've had many of the same symptoms, including anxiety and brain fog, but no memory problems. My problems started about ten years ago. Over the years, I've tried many supplements, many of which of course didn't work. Eventually I tried phosphatidyl-serine, which has helped me a lot. I'm not sure how it works, but supposedly it has to do with fat metabolism in the brain, and myelation (the shielding around nerve cells).

I just wanted to post this, perhaps it can help you and save you some time in finding a solution. But of course, everybody is different, so ymmv.

Phosphatidylserine is an important phospholipid membrane component which plays a key role in cell cycle signaling. It good for your brain basically.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Jeremiah, I am quite relieved and scared reading this forum. Let me start from the beginning because I have only been feeling this for 3 days. I'm seeing some here have been dealing with this for a lot longer which scares me.

I got a weird head "ache" pressure 3 weeks ago and it went away. Then I slowed my eating. I started having problems with my abdomen which has been going on for 2 years. I usually stop eating or slow down and skip meals because of it.

Then the weird feeling in my head started again! I was scared I thought I was having a stroke. But I didn't have the classic symptoms face drop etc. So I went in to the ER they told me it was sinusitis. I dismissed that because ive had one before and there wasn't any mucus from my nose. So I decided I'll keep going to work etc. The pressure was there still but not as bad. Then it was time to go to work. I felt foggy blurry vision. It scared me I couldn't say blue cheese correctly. So I went home early and the fogginess came back and I was really scared! No panic attack at all. Just scared. I called the nurse hotline and they told me to go to the ER asap. So I did. Worst mistake ever! They saw me right away when I said I was having problems seeing. They did a stroke test and CT Scan without contrast. Normal nothing found. Doctor came back very sure of herself and said I was suffering from a migraine and would get a migraine cocktail. I was freaked. I hate narcotics because I know they trigger panic attacks. I told her but she just shrugged it off as if I'd be OK. I wanted to actually tell her I DIDN'T HAVE PAIN! Hence no migraine. I've had them before when I was a child. I didn't have a migraine. They gave me the meds via if and boom full blown panic attack. I was so drugged up and was numb I had to knock myself out. Anyways they discharged me and off I go.

Next day was hell my brain was so foggy and I couldn't think I had severe panic attacks all day and barely ate. I've been feeling this for 3 days now. sad

I see a Neurologist today and will let her know anxiety is a symptom not the cause.

I also have to work which scares me to! How do you guys live with it sad

    Thank you for reading

And I'll try to keep you all posted

12 days ago my very healthy 16 yr old son started vomiting for couple days. That issue resolved but he is left with debilitating brain fog. Feels numb in his mind, feeling detached. He occ has palpitations in his head for few seconds and ringing in the ears. He cries every day now because he feels his future is over. Drs aren't interested in finding answers. How long is it ok to watch a 16 yr olds brain deteriorate? Why don't they see this as an emergency? Few routine labs incl tsh are normal. I feel scared and helpless. This came out of the blue. God help us.

Try to control his eating habits maybe? It seems like most people on here have had eating nutrition problems. I'm on day 4 and I'm forcing myself to eat. Even with a bad pain in the side and anxiety. Hope he gets better.

Hello again I'm going to keep posting updates. I went to the neurologist today. She confirmed it was a migraine. There is no headache but she says it still causes symptoms of a migraine. She is testing for everything under the rainbow which is great. Hyperthyroidism, diabetes, calcium etc.. I have a scheduled MRI/MRA on my brain and neck. She noticed my left arm is weak and thinks I have a pinched nerve. I noticed a lot of comments say you sit around does anyone have neck pain. I played online games and my position was not good and hurt my neck. Is that a possibility? Maybe cutting off oxygen supply to brain? Make sure to exercise and eat healthy. I am a little less foggy, hope that stays that way. Lost 6 pounds in the last 4 days. sad

Good luck everyone and keep us all posted on your journey.

Hi guys. Came here looking for some answers.

Weekend before last, I experienced one of the random sharp blinding head pains I occasionally get, except it lasted all day instead of a few seconds like normal. Day after, it switched sides (normally there's a few months in between episodes & switching sides). When it switched to the left, it made my skin sensitive & painful in my scalp & face. That lasted all day Monday. Tuesday I called into work because it was still happening & I knew I couldn't deal with customers in that kind of pain without getting mean. Wednsday that went away, but turned into head pressure, mostly forehead, but also around temples, eyes, bridge of my nose, top of my head. Feels like someone simultaneously squeezing/pushing in my head. It's not getting any better, feels like my head could explode at any moment.

I'm afraid to go to a doctor, as I feel like they will not find anything & think I am crazy, as I don't think I'm explaining this right, but it's what I'm experiencing.

I've some nothing new, been nowhere new, so I don't understand. The blinding few second head pains have never turned into this before. I'm only 32 years old & this is starting to scare me.

I'm sorry you are going through this! Try to get rest and eat all three meals even if you don't have an appetite. Those things keeps energy to your brain. Try to make sure you don't have any anxiety as it stresses your body.

Make that appointment and get the tests. It will help find out something even if all is normal.

      Warm regards

      Jeremiah

I came across this forum a couple of months ago when I felt like I was starting to lose my mind because of some of the symptoms everyone here is experiencing. I had the dizziness/head fog, head and stomach pressure that would come on suddenly and then dissipate and then come back. My body felt jittery and mentally I just felt unsettled. I also felt like I was having heart palpitations especially when the abdominal pressure would hit. The only thing keeping me from really freaking out was finding this forum and that my wife was also experiencing the pressure symptoms and the head fog.

For the last 10 years I have eaten very healthy and have always been physically active. Long story short, I started to suspect that it might be allergy related and watching a PBS special one night by a doctor who specializes in allergy treatment my suspicions were confirmed. As he started talking about his own experiences and symptoms, they sounded exactly like mine. Many people are needlessly suffering because they don't have the traditional symptoms of runny nose, sneezing, cough, itchy watery eyes, etc. Allergy sysmptoms can present in myriad ways which makes them difficult to diagnose and is one reason why traditional allergy testing may not catch them. It could even mimic conditions as severe as fibromyalgia.

What I would recommend from personal experience is to first make sure your diet is optimized which means cut out the processed crap and focus on fresh, whole foods. Eat lots of vegetables and healthy fats. I used to eat a lot of raw foods but have learned that for many people that is actually hard on the body too so lightly cook your food. Also remember that everyone is different so certain foods, even if they are supposed to be good for you, may not agree with you. Be mindful to how you feel before during, and after you eat to identify how different foods impact you and eliminate the ones that don't agree.

What really confirmed my suspicions was when I started taking stinging nettle in a tincture. I have no idea specifically what I am allergic to but it seems to be seasonal and depends greatly on weather conditions. I don't like taking medications because of the extra effects so I take a more "natural" and holistic approach, and stinging nettle helps many people with allergy symptoms. Since I've been taking the nettle, I have not experienced these symptoms. When I don't take it and the conditions are right, I start to feel the fogginess, pressure, and unsettled feeling so I take some nettle to head it off. Basically, I try to play it by ear because I don't need to take it every day, and now that I know what the cause of my crazy symptoms is, I know what to do to get things back under control.

Best of luck to everyone who is suffering and I highly encourage you to explore the allergy route. And if your doctor dismisses that idea, find another doctor because all docs are not created equal.

Hello my friend. I had the very same symptoms for for nearly four (4) years. I found out that I had heavy metal poisoining...My blood test were normal at times and completely "out of wack" at other times. My brain MRI had white spots which were identified as "Migraine Spots". You may want to ask your physician about the possibility of Heavyetal Poisoning. I pray for you, the very best.

    Hello everyone,

I have been suffering the same as everyone else here, going on 4 years. I got help and a diagnosis.

I'm not saying this is what everyone has but check out the following :POTs (and yes you can have very low blood pressure and high all in the same hour - I've had it and am being treated for it). This can cause the most awful anxiety feelings, but it's not actual anxiety. Your body isn't working right with heart rate and blood flow, and it will make you feel like you are having a panick attack. Adderrall helps me so much, I take the lowest dose possible, 5mg.

Check out Mast Cell Activation disease /syndrome. Causes flushing and racing heart, a low histamine diet and histamine enzymes to flush out the extra histamine can be a life changer. Histamine Block is a good one.

Next, read about Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It's genetic and the connective tissue slowly falls apart, all of the above usually happens, POTs MCAD... And Cerebral Spinal Fluid leak.

That may be the cause of all the brain head pain and mystery brain problems, CSF leak. The big indicator... Do you get a headache when upright? Does it improve when you lay down. If so look up Dr Ian Carroll Stanford California USA. He has a great YouTube video that may explain it all to you. And none of it will show up on a MRI. I do saline iv's once a week. Hoping to get a blood patch soon.

Good luck, hope some of this helps.

Hi all. I got a new dog a year ago and it had Giardia. I caught it and then gave it to my husband. I have had mostly intestinal symptoms (very frequent bowel movements, floating bulky hard to flush foul smelling stool with undigested food, stomach cramps, lactose and wheat intolerance, low alcohol tolerance) plus racing heart shortness of breath leg/ muscle weakness, body aches, debilitating fatigue, brain fog, mood swings generally feeling toxic/poisoned. Then my husband got ill (having been pretty much invincible his whole life)with severe acid indigestion, stomach cramps, the same gross frequent stools, body aches, headaches, exhaustion. He also has ALL the symptoms you describe to the point where he can barely work - crushing hot pressure cooker feeling in his head, terrible brain fog, feeling detached, rushing heart rate, feeling faint, crushing feeling on his shoulder, awful headaches, low grade fever, cold sweats. We both also started suffering random panic attacks that would come out of nowhere for no reason like once when he was just sitting at home relaxing watching TV. We were not previously anxious with any mental health problems. The dog STILL has Giardia symptoms after 4 rounds of metronidazole. It is completely metronidazole resistant and the NHS has abandoned me pretty much having given me all the tests for every intestinal disorder and deficiency going, and stool testing which are apparently negative for Giardia but it's the wrong test they're doing. I've also taken metronidazole twice whch didnt work. My partner took it twice, both times felt better for one week then ill again as before. Anyway, having read all your stories I would recommend Febendazole. It is an animal dewormer and parasite killer which is not licensed for human consumption in the UK. There are MANY humans taking it in the world I have discovered however. It is a long process. I've been taking 4g sachets one a day (I weigh 10 stone) for one month. But the symptoms ARE improving including all the symptoms you mentioned. The intestinal symptoms are 60% better and the fatigue and brain fog aboyt 70-80%, sometimes I feel completely better but i still avoid grains and most dairy. My husband is still up and down but is also improving overall. I have had zero side effects. Febendazole inhibits cancer growth in rats and is currently being trialed in pancreatic cancer sufferers in the US with no ill effects. If you're at your wits end, I believe this is worth a try given that the 'safe limit' in rats for this drug is 10,000 times the amount that I'm taking!
