Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,
I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.
I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.
So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.
I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.
I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.
I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.
What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.
Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.
Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.
Thanks for reading

I'm feeling relieved that I found his forum because I've been dealing with all of this for over a year now!
My neurologist diagnosed me with migraines and tension headaches (I lead a pretty stressful life) and all X-rays and CT scans have come back normal. I'm thinking it could be nutrition for me - I'm not a very good eater because I'm always so busy but these "head fogs" are definitely slowing me down. They're just horrible!
I'll be in touch as I start eating better and I'm going to look into vitamin supplements as well. I just turned 50 so I'm thinking hormones may be playing a part as well!
Oh and my doc wants me to start Topamax (Trokendi XR) and I've been hesitant so I'm happy to read that several of you think these pills can only add to the issue...doctors basically suck from what I've experienced!
Thanks for any and all help!

I got in touch with the author of the original post as my symptoms were scarily similar to his.
In the mean time I feel like I tried everything from vitamins to supplements to chiropractors with no relief.
2 weeks ago I started going gluten free and during the first week or so my symptoms improved dramatically but now have seemed to got worse again. I've read this can often happen as it's my body craving the gluten after being used to it for so long.
The author replied to me a couple of days ago and said he too had gone gluten free and is feeling much better but it took him a couple of months to notice a change so i will be sticking with it.
Just a suggestion!

I am here to seek help for a problem I have been going through for the past three monhs. I was absolutely fine until one day when a thought struck my mind. it was so powerful that I could not stop thinking about it everyday. It was all over my mind. I would give reasons to myself to stop believing it, but It had become a reality in mind. It had completely occupied my mind. i would also get severe attacks of shivering at night. Anyways, after some struggling and as the time passed I came to believe that it was a delusional thought and it stopped bothering me anymore. But my state of mind is still not normal and as a result of that I am having the following issues:
1. heaviness in right side of the head as if its tightly clutched.
2. sweating in my feet
3. not feeling like I am the same person I was earlier.
4. impaired memory
5. wanting to eat a lot
6. feeling indifferent to important events of my life
7. feeling strange about myself
8. doing things without empathy
9. not wanting to dress up, look good, enjoy life
10. having ugly marks on my face
11. feeling disconnected from reality
12. wanting to stay at home 24/7
13. In short I am feeling like a alien
I cant go on with this. Its terrible. Ever since I got these problems I have been living without any purpose. Going through it is horrible. Please help !!

Hi,
I have exactly the same as you described and also a similar recreational background as you. I actually believe it may be something linked to the nerves in my teeth as when I bite down it can trigger a feeling of dizziness and sometimes the sound of blood rushing in my ears. (I'm thinking is this possibly due to grinding teeth at night)? So I have ordered a mouth guard to see if this helps.
Are you any better and if so what was it?

Please listen: you need a spinal tap. CT scan and MRI WILL ALWAYS BE NORMAL if you have PTC pseudo tumor cerebri because spinal fluid is CLEAR. You will have the weirdest symptoms that can never be diagnosed. This happened to me. If pressure becomes too great your brain sac may rupture like mine did and you will leak brain fluid out of your nose like you have a forever cold. Weight lifting will make pressure worse so STOP IT! CT SCAN WILL SHOW THINNING OF BRAIN LINING IF PRESSURE IS TOO GREAT. Most doctors don't look or miss this fact to diagnose on the scan. Neuro optomologist can diagnose this also if you are scared of spinal tap.

Hi all,
If you haven't already, request a b12 blood test from your GP. I get heavy head sensation, dizziness/swaying feeling, fatigue and brain fog and after several tests all of which were normal I found out I was extremely deficient in b12. Few months of prescribed b12 in a large dose fixed the problem. Good luck!

Hi,
Yes, my levels were very low so I needed high dose for 6 months, took about 3 months to start noticing and improvement. I don't take them all the time but have to go on 3 months of tablets twice a year as my levels drop again. I have good, normal healthy diet with red meat and load some of vegetables and I got tested to make sure I'm not pernicious and that came back normal, so the doctors have no idea why my levels can't be maintained through my diet. For whatever reason, they can't, so I will likely have to take these on and off for the rest of my life.

Sorry for late reply - I am on Cyanocobalamin 50mcg - 3 tablets per day, this is obviously based on my specific circumstances and how low my b12 was. I think 'normal' levels are 200 pg/ml and mine were around 25, so incredibly low. Hope this helps.

This sounds like Lyme disease. I went undiagnosed for 5 years. Constant headaches and migraines, memory was completely shot, I was an emotional wreck, joint pain, skin pain, I was freezing all the time, and exhausted. I was constantly sick and no one could figure out why.
One day my dad was diagnosed with Lyme, and I happened to be getting blood work done that day, so I requested to be tested for Lyme as well. And there it was.
I had to go on 6 months treatment of an anti biotic rocephin which was administered daily through a picc line in my arm. I had to take a year off school while I got better.
However, today I feel so much better and I've been back at school for two years now almost ready to graduate.
Lyme gets VERY little attention in the medical community, and sadly a lot of the time doctors will see a positive result and still tell you it's negative. Get tested multiple times. It happens to people all the time, and this sounds like classic symptoms to me.
I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there, you will! :]

Hi! I was just wondering if you or anyone mentioning Lymes disease was aware or unaware of a tick bite? Everyone tells me "you'd know if you had a tick bite"! So I'm just curious if its possible to have Lymes and be unaware that you were bitten! Also my daughter mentioned diet drinks ? I've always drank diet drinks and use equal in my coffee. Going to try that plus have head CT scan tomorrow. Have severe DDD in neck and lumbar spine . I have noticed if I massage neck the head heaviness subsides and when I stop it comes back! I have such pain in hands I can't touch phone or touchpad on laptop without stylus. My toes are numb and electrical feeling in feet and hands. My head used to feel better if I laid back on pillow but now I can feel that "electric" feeling all over when I lay back (I sleep in chair with ottoman lol (long story!) I have pinched nerves in 2 toes on each foot& Morton's neuroma in both (mild in L ft but worse in R) . can't get MRI due to spinal cord stimulator which I'm trying to have taken out! My first thought was allergies (daughter had cat and dog inside & when I moved in I got a "cold" that lasted like 3 mos. And happens again every so often! Mine started after withdrawals (I had moved & had to find new pain mgmt Dr which takes forever to get into!) So I thought once I had My pain meds again it would go away and it did until I had to move BACK to my daughters then it got worse! And again new Dr and it took 7 mos and 2 pain mgmt Drs to get back my reg. Meds again. But those haven't helped symptoms at all now! Any thoughts? Been tested for major diseases like lupus , gluten intolerance (have gluten sensitivity ) had EMG that was normal Dr did mention Fibromyalgia but I pray he's wrong as no cure for that & can't live with this! Tired of isolating because I don't feel like doing anything! Just getting a shower is a huge chore! . Please let me know about tick bites! Thanks!
