Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,

I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.

I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.

I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.

I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.

I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.

What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.

Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.

Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Thanks for reading

Hi you may have already gone done this route but have you considered an autoimmune disease or similar. I have Fibromyalgia and a couple of other auto immune deceases. Believe me the headaches and brain fog are so dibilitating at times. If you haven't it might be worth discussing with GP. Good luck

Everyone do me a huge favor and research toward neck posture , I'm pretty sure this is the answer we have all been looking for! Explains everything and even why tests come back as nothing wrong( text neck) is the slang term

    Hello.

I found this thread 2 days ago, after 2 months of feeling the same as the thread creator:

    -Feeling detached from reality

-Feeling all my synapses covered by cotton

    - Hearing others like I was underwater

    - Living like I wasnt there, but someone else looking at my body.

    - Processing information incredibly slow, impossible to follow a normal conversation without knowing what the other person said 5 seconds ago

-Feeling pressure in both sides of my head like if my head was being pressed by 2 screwdrivers. Strong pain when I touched those head zones

    - Some other symptoms already mentioned here

Went to the Dr and after testing my memory he order a MRI scan (which I will do next week) but 2 days ago I found the solution that took like 90% of all those symptoms and I hope it can help some of you. I follow this steps:

    -500 mg paracetamol

    - Slow Circular movements with my shoulders and then my head for about 10 min

-A hot tub for like 30-60 min and repeating those movements

    - A massage in the back and neck (with the help of another, of course)

I started feeling better after the first relaxing movements with my shoulder and neck but the key was relaxing my body and the massage. I think a muscle relaxant can also help with this.

At first I couldnt believe all those symptoms could be caused because I was stressed ( I didnt felt stressed but I believe I accumulated small things with the passing months) but it makes sense since our back accumulates stress and blocks all the "wires" passing though our spine.

I really really hope this can be of help to some of you, it is worth trying if you didnt already.

Best wishes to all of you.

So, I posted about half a year ago expressing that I was having the same symptoms. Let me expand upon what I was experiencing and what I did.

-For about a week straight I had some serious nerve issues out of nowhere.

I felt like I was on fire when trying to sleep and my sleep was completely ineffective.

-I started having anxiety attacks for the first time in my life and I was having them about 6 times a day including in the middle of the night.

    -No doctor had any idea.

    (Aftermath: next 3 years)

-Sleep does very little. Almost impossible to wake up. I haven't woken up refreshed in 3 years. I haven't gone to sleep with a tiredness like I used to.

-No internal dialogue. I just look at things and do things. There is no little voice in my head pondering what to do like there used to be.

-No emotions. None. No love, no hate, no anger, no joy, no nothing.

    -Extreme brain fog

-Bad fatigue (I could work, but barely, I would have fired me if I were the boss)

    -Light sensitivity

    -eyes always feel irritated

-strange head pressure that causes disorientation

    -random moments of prolonged depersonalization

    -constant dreamlike state

    -anxiety and heart palpitations

    -random muscle pains

    -random nerve pains

So about year 1, the anxiety lifted, but the problems persisted. I stopped having anxiety attacks and along with lack of emotions I can't even feel anxiety.

I barely remembered what life used to be like, just that it was better, I slept better, I thought more clearly, and emotions were fun (even the downs). I was at about 5% of what I used to be. Maybe 10% on a good day (once in 6 months)

My heart is fine, my bloodwork is fine, I did a very in-depth thyroid test that was 500 dollars and that was fine (you spend 500 and you want to find something)

Like many here, my options were down to ALS or MS. I knew it was something nervous or possibly with the Vagus nerve. Drinking coffee would make me more tired, make my head hurt, and cause brainfog so bad it felt like I had taken a roofie.

Then I read about Lyme's disease. I remember hearing that Lyme's was when you got bit by a tick, then it would cause you to have flu symptoms where you get super hot, then super cold; like temperature bipolar. NOPE! I researched it very thoroughly and a lot matched with me.

I didn't take a test because they are not accurate...at all. Ever.

About 2 months ago I started SLAMMING Oregano oil. 4 drops a day of the medical grade stuff in gelatin capsule 4 times a day. Within 4 weeks I felt about 75% of my old self. I can drink several beers without feeling like garbage the next week and a half. I only feel like garbage for about 16 hours afterwards now. I can drink SODA, not coffee still for some reason, but I can drink soda and the caffeine doesn't fry me.

I came off of the Oregano oil 4 weeks ago (4 on, 4 off) and feel about 40%. I started the oil again and I'm looking forward to making more progress.

Oh, I chose Oregano because it's effective against both Lyme's and Candida.

Be aware that it's a long term treatment. It can take years, but feeling like you do it's worth a shot.

I'll be back in 6 months for another update.

Just started today. Still going to the doctor but figured it was worth a try. How is this helping after another month?

What prompted you to start oregano oil? I read all of your symptoms and it sounds like your talking about the last almost 2 years of my life. Although I have been D.X with Epstein Barr virus and cell mediated immune deficiency. I have not tested for Lyme.

Hi there dan, I noticed you posted this about two months, I want to say I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms, have you made more progress after these two months and also I just want to ask if the oregano oil helped bring the emotions back as well?

Somewhat. I still don't have all of the answers but my feelings are much more intact than they were when I wrote my first post. A lot of issues were mental even though they didn't feel like it. Our minds are a giant puzzle and when a lot of negative things compound together they get locked and our brains just quits. Is it all mental? No. I have some serious gut issues that I'm getting checked out, but having actual physical issues while experiencing anxiety/stress will mess your mind up to the point of derealization. It is incredibly damaging and it is something that only people who experience it can understand.

So, here are some tips I have:

Drinking: You have to quit. This was what was frying my emotions. I'm almost positive. I get emotionally numb for weeks if I have a drink now. I'm still not perfect, but I can have a good time, laugh, and somewhat enjoy things that are happening. I still can't love, but that's probably because I'm out of practice and not looking.

Oregano oil: you have to take for at least a month. This helps everything. No idea how, but everything is better with Oregano oil. I can take this for the first time in months while thinking it won't do anything and by the end of the day I feel human again.

Paleo/Keto: you have to try for at least 2 weeks to rule out food allergies. It took a long time to realize that I'm carbohydrate intolerant. The extreme gas after eating bread should have been a giveaway, but I didn't want to believe it. This gas and acid reflux hit my Vagus (probably) and caused palpitations. Limited carbs with Oregano? Palpitations are now a rare occurrence.
