Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,
I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.
I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.
So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.
I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.
I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.
I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.
What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.
Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.
Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.
Thanks for reading

I have developed a new symptom. A sensation of a low electric current going from my ear down to my shoulder. Not a jolt of electricity but more like a buzzing sensation. Turns out there is actually a medical term for it called Lhermitte’s sign . Apparently it is a very common symptom in MS patients. I have not been diagnosed with MS so don't freak out.. just thought it was interesting. Anyone else experiencing anything similar ?

Yes, I used to get the electric shocks in my neck quite often at the beginning when my symptoms started. I was exposed to black mold though for 12 months. This was definitely a trigger to my symptoms. Its been almost 2 years since i have been out of that environment, however still struggling with random spells of extreme fatigue, debilitating brain fog, body aches etc.

About four months ago I experienced my first panic attack. Since then I haven't felt right. I've been experiencing some similar symptoms; brain fog, mild head pressure, anxiety, depression, feeling like I'm not in my own body. At first I had awful headaches every day. I opted to go to a walk in clinic and get checked out. The doctor wrote it off as sinus pressure; which is kinda common with me cause I used to get ear infections all the time. He recommended that I try Flonase. I used it once and the headaches never came back, at least not as often. But I still deal with tension in my head and a constant sense of fear for my own life. I've never used drugs and I am only 21.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
I just wanted to share that I had all the main poster symptoms, and a simple blood test solved all of them.
My blood test showed that I have foliate deficiency. I started by taking folic acid 5mg per day for the last 2 months, and all the symptoms were gone after 1-1.5 months:
Just to be clear, I have not changed my life style or day routine at all. It is the folic acid only that solve it, I have no doubt about it.
I have not read all the replies here, I assume someone gave this one as a solution already. So +1 to foliate deficiency.
I wish you all the best.

google for Eagle's syndrome. a rare condition, but also often ignored and overlooked by docs. if you had ct scan of the neck, you might want to check with the ENT as they are docs mostly diagnosing this cond.
wikipedia and radiopaedia.org have more info, as well as dozens of other, more medical-oriented websites.

Recoverandheal - you have just described my symptoms perfectly. I have suffered 3 years with this ongoing head pressure, head sensations (mine are JUST like you describe - which is hard to put into words), tinnitus, general fatigue, aches, a little breathlessness, generally not wanting to engage and lots of others - feeling horrible! I wanted to post to let folks know that after 3 years of doctors telling me it is thyroid related (I do have hypothyroidism) and feeling like I have a black veil over me, I have finally been dianosed with SIBO and am reading there are many of us with gut health issues who have these very symptoms. I have an appointment with a top SIBO specialist in Los Angeles in 2 weeks to see what he suggests as we piece together SIBO plus thyroid issues. Good luck to all of you suffering with these debilitating symptoms!

i just joined this site today after reading your post. i feel you dude I have a constant tension headache from smoking weed but it pulsates and it gives me brain fog. hard to recall words and string sentences together. Im taking amitryptaline which helps with most of the tension but i still have the throb and fog. i just met someone the other day that had a similar experience with weed and was put on verapamil for 2 years and bow hes better. im going to the doctor and ask for that and also ask for an mri. i also got a ct scan but it came back fine. i had no anxiety before this. my blood pressure is a little high. i feel like it is s****y or bad blood circulation to the brain because after doing semax(a neuropeptide smart drug that improves blood flow to the brain) I have so much clarity. But this is very expensive. i also think inflammation is linked to this. I noticed after doing shrooms my anxiety about the whole situation got a lot better.

SUCCESS STORY
Hello! My name is Chase and I am here to be a light in this dark dark tunnel. For 2 years, I was battling these symptoms and FINALLY got FULL RELIEF!!! I want you all to know there are many more people who are being cured from the symptoms in this forum than you think. I used to visit these forums all the time, just praying someone would share a success story. Now I know why you don't hear them. Once I was cured, the first thing I did was put the 2 years of pain and torment on an island and never think about it again. I honestly never think about those times anymore because it just brings up painful emotions, and there is no need for that. I really didn't want to share my story here because I think these forums are basically hell on earth and can bring serious depression to people going through this. However, I am going to dive into my journey one last time to help out anyone who needs it.
It all started June 4th, 2017. I got back from a boat ride and suddenly I felt tons of pressure in my head and a headache. A couple days went by and then I woke up with my left ear feeling completely underwater. Then everything got worse. I developed tinnitus, sensory (light) sensitivity, headaches, brain fog, sore neck, head pressure, and more. I went to my family doc who prescribed basic meds that didnt work. Then I went to a ENT doc to see about my ear problem. No help there. I ended up seeing more doctors and trying more things than any of you would believe.
Here is a list of the doctors I went to:
Here are some procedures and things I tried to relieve the symptoms:
Please listen to what I have to say now so you do not have to pay as much money as I did!
After all of this, I was still just as determined to figure out what was causing these symptoms that we are all talking about. I was trying really hard throughout all of this to find the ROOT CAUSE and not just take meds. I went to my family doc again to get some blood work (for like the 20th time in 2 years) and he just casually told me to visit a headache clinic. I didn't really think these places would be anything special or work for that matter. However, I was desperate, so I found a headache clinic that happened to be near the college I was attending (Michigan State). The clinic is called Michigan Headache and Neurology. Dr. Edmund Messina is a interesting guy. I went to his clinic and they sat down with me for 2 hours to hear me out. I had some blood work done, and came back again. Dr. Messina was convinced that I have what is called New Daily Persistent Headaches. He then went ahead and prescribed me Effexor and Gabapentin. Effexor is an anti-deppressant that he said he uses "off-label" to help rebuild our brain chemistry and shake out what is causing the brain fog, headaches, and everything else. He also prescribed me Gabapentin because I had developed allodynia (sensitve scalp) and tinnitus. Gabapentin is a nerve-relaxer that used to be used for seizures, but now is used for a multide of things. After about 6 months of being on these medications, all of my symptoms were COMPLETELY GONE! Since then, I have put this whole ordeal on a shelf, and havent thought about it since (until now). I am back to normal. No tinnitus. No headaches. No brain fog. No sensitivity. No nothing! I was afraid to take meds (especialy brain chemistry altering meds, but as long as you be careful, do your research on the dangers of the drug, and trust the process, you should come out alright!
Now if you will excuse me, I'm about to. put this whole memory back on the shelf, and hopefully never think about it again. I wish you all good luck in finding your cure!

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has experienced any of my symptoms and what has been diagnosed, I've been to 13 different GP's and 2 ENT's (ear nose and throat specialist) also seen a neurologist. I'm so sorry for such a long post, but just wanted to explain every symptom, in hope someone may have experienced it and has some knowledge.
I'm 28 years old. Female.
It all started in April with a right ear ache, felt like a deep burning pain, I thought it was just an ear infection and it will clear. Moved into a new house in May, still had the ear pain here and there. Decided to quit smoking in April and start vaping all was going well until mid July I woke up with flu like symptoms, runny nose and dry cough, sore throat, headache and nausea, I started to loose taste on my tongue that day, I thought it was just the flu, everything went away by the next day except the loss of taste on my tongue stayed (when I say loss of taste on my tongue, I can't taste anything when it's on my tongue. I have to swallow and as it goes down the back of my throat I can somewhat taste it, smell seems to be fine. Just the taste is gone) I thought it was vapers tongue? So I tried some of the home remedies on google with no luck, a week and a half later, I woke up during the night with what felt like food poisoning, nausea, dizziness, sweating, shivering, light headed, everything felt like it was moving like seeing cars driving past me made me feel so much worse, I had to just focus on one object that was completely still, next day all the symptoms went away except the dizziness (dizziness was more inside my head not vertigo) , so at this point I still had no taste and now the dizziness had stayed, I went to the doctor for a complete blood test, everything came back normal besides low Vitamin D, I had the vitamin D injection, no difference, it's now been almost 7 months since I've lost taste and the dizziness started, it's constant 24/7... throughout the 7 months the dizziness eased off slightly and I just had a strong brain fog where I can't think properly or concentrate kinda like no Mental clarity, I stopped vaping as I thought maybe that was causing it, no difference, had an MRI with and without contrast on my head and neck, everything is perfect, I was told it might be my wisdom teeth so I've had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out. (They have hit my nerve and now I have no feeling in my chin or bottom lip, made no difference with the dizziness and loss of taste) all together I've had about 18 different blood tests, urine tests, blood colture tests, everything is normal, I've had an EEG on my brain, all normal, hearing is perfect according to the audiogram, ENT has said my ear is fine inside and is very clean. The pain I get in my ear is very deep inside sharp pain, I've noticed lately it seems to be triggered by wind I think as it only really comes when I'm outside. Also when turning my head to the left I feel a pull down the right side of my neck, very randomly I do get a slight ringing in my ear and feels like my hearing is very far away, but since the ear pain started in April, ive had a popping noise in my ear everytime I yawn or open my mouth a certain way, kinda sounds like a popping noise, I thought maybe it has something to do with my eustachian tubes so I've started taking flixonase nasule drops at night, too early to notice a difference yet. I also experience some cheek pain and tenderness around my Temple all seems to be on my right side. Also when laying down in bed I sometimes get a floating feeling.
Just the last week as I was standing in the bathroom my eyes flickered to the right and back from a google search it sounds like nystagmus. It's only happend twice in the matter of a minute or 2. But since then my dizziness has came back bad again and now sometimes it feels like the floor is moving under me and my eyes are a little blurry. Laying down and turning my head left to right doesn't really make any difference in the dizziness but when I sit straight up the dizziness gets worse for a minute or so then goes back to the same constant dizziness. Sorry again for the long post but just trying to cover everything in hopes that someone may have experienced the same as me and has any knowledge of what it could be because it's terrifying not knowing what's going on.
Now because doctors can't find anything they're starting to blame it on anxiety, I know anxiety can cause brain fog and dizziness, but it isn't an explanation for my ear pain and loss of taste.

I have been suffering from similar symptoms for the last 3 months and my life has been entirely affected by it. It started with pressure in and around my ears and then I began to have just a moment or two where I would almost zone out and then be unable to snap out of it. I was then driving home in the rain from a vacation where I had a rush of heaviness/weakness go through my body. I pulled over and called 911 where once at the ER they told me it was just a panic attack and sent me home without even doing blood work. I went to a clinic twice where they said sinus infection then ear infection but after I took both course of antibiotics I still didn't feel any better. The longer it went on the more the brain fog began to become an issue and I stopped driving and took a month off of work. It feels like I'm almost detaching from reality and it takes so much effort to focus and even then sometimes I cannot even if I try. I have some other symptoms I'm not sure are related like trouble swallowing, lower back burning type pain, cloudy urine, vision issues, hearing issues. I told my primary care about the urine and she did not seem concerned. I dont know if I should look for a second opinion. MRI, CT scan and blood tests came back normal, ENT cleared my sinuses. I keep freaking is it my kidneys, TMJ, is it actually anxiety??? Please someone help im hitting a breaking point with the frustration of this all. I want to go back to normal life.

It's only a temporary help until we figure what it is but for now try to embrace the feeling of detachment, talk about it with one of your closest friends or family members and try to observe the thoughts that go through your head. Try not to emotionally feed into it because when I've done that its been some of the worst times. Embrace the detachment as a way to deal with it, a kind of Oxymoron for sure but it's helped me working through it, I hope it helps you in some way.

thank you so much this actually makes alot of sense and I'm hoping adopting this practice will help lower the anxiety and hopefully make the symptoms more manageable!
