Head Tension

It feels like the muscles on the back of my head keep tightening up. This is another new symptom for me, it's always something! Anyway I almost wonder if I have TMJ because my ears keep popping, they ache sometimes, and when I move my jaw I can hear a grinding sound in my ears. So I'm wondering if it's just a typical fibro symptom or TMJ causing the head muscles to tense up? It's an odd sensation and anything new makes me nervous. Ugh. Anyone have TMJ or TMJ like symptoms?

I get strange sensations in my head also. Always in exactly the same place, low down on the left side of the back of my head. The pain is very strong and sudden, and I am completely unable to move speak or think clearly until it passes. It only lasts a few seconds, but a few days ago it happened 7 times in quick succession and I was frightened because I thought perhaps it was a stroke or something really serious. Is this yet another symptom of fibromalgia? It is as if something is twisted in my head, I suppose it could be like a sort of cramp, but I didn't think there were muscles in the brain. It is a very strange sensation, unlike any other I have experienced and like you, new symptoms make me nervous too, I am afraid that it may not be related to fibromalgia, so I suppose I must get it checked. The problem I have now is that my GP refused to consider fibromalgia until a specialist at the hospital told him there was no doubt I had it (he said it didn't exist it was an excuse people use not to have to work!!) so now I hesitate to ask for a brain scan because he will probably think I am a hypochondriac. It is not easy to find another doctor in my area, so changing my GP isn't really a viable option for me. It will help to ease my fears if others with fibromalgia have the same symptoms, and better yet if they have ideas how to control them.

I completely understand. What your describing sounds like it's close to one of the tender points in the back of the head, but maybe your doctor (hopefully) can confirm that for you. I worry all the time that some of my symptoms are related to something else, but I don't want to run to the doctor for every single symptom...so I've just decided if something new happens I'll give it a while and if it doesn't go away I'll schedule an appt. Usually, it does go away as a flare ends. This head thing is weird, though. Ugh.
