Head twitch after taking sertraline?

Hi Everyone,

So 3 weeks ago i went to the doctors about my anxiety and depression and they prescribed me with 50mg of sertraline per day. I have been taking them for 3 weeks. On Saturday I noticed that my head was twitching slightly, i went out on Saturday night drinking and on the Sunday it had stopped, so i no longer worried. But when I went in to work on Monday the twitch had come back. This immediately made me very worried but I thought i may have strained my neck slightly. The twitch persisted through to today Wednesday leaving me very worried. I rang my doctor and they told me to stop taking the sertraline until i come in for a follow up appointment. I have also had bad Diarrhoea since Monday. I am so worried that the twitch may become permanent, and worrying about it is probably making it more likely to carry on. Can anyone shed some light on this situation and maybe tell me what it is that I'm going through.

Thankyou

Hi Charlie it is worrying when you start taking a new drug for the first time, but there are so many people on this forum that take this drug and have different side effects, i am on this drug and when i first took it i had terrible side effects and had to ask questions too, i started on 50mg for 3 weeks and nothing so the doctor put it up to 100mg, i felt terrible could not lift my head off the pillow so i went back down to 50mg and i still did not feel right, but you see i do suffer depression and anxiety, but i also suffer severe migraines so the doctor said if it is making my migraines worse i should stop taking the drug and find something else, i did stop but the depression got worse so i thought maybe i should give the drug another try at 50mg, the depression got better , my head hurt a bit but i coped, so i carried on and went back up to 100mg, this may not interest you but i started gaining weight, no good , not for someone who has weight issues so i stopped, i am not on them now, been off them noe for 3 days , not long i know , but all i can say i have heard a lot of people on this forum have different thoughts on this drug, some say its terrible, and some say it has saved their life, so charlie , you have to do what makes you feel better , if you do not feel good on this drug tell your doctor, this drug can help but it might not be the one for you, there are others on the market, and if like me prefer alternative medicine, to deal with my depression, counselling , talking therapy, they are great, sorry i have gone on a bit long ,but i hope this helps

    Hi Charlie,

Sorry you are struggling at the moment.  I’m not sure what you mean by twitch but I have felt a pins and needles feeling in my head and also sort of a strong ping like electrical shock feeling.  I’m at 8 weeks on S and I’m pleased to say most all side effects have gone or are slowing down.  The only annoying side effects I still have are blurry vision and dry mouth/skin/eyes.  Constant chapped and cracking lips.  The toity issues, headaches, twitching pins and needles, are mostly gone.  I will take the dry chapping and wear my glasses more over the horrible depression and anxiety panic attacks ANY DAY! I’m 8 weeks in and feeling hope as life has become magic again!

Hang in there, listen to your docs and your calm days will surly come. - x kat

I had what they call brain zaps for the first few weeks and was on sertraline, not sure if that’s what you mean but if it’s any consolation mine have gone away after around the 5-6 week mark. Hope this helps.

    Hi!

Im so sorry for what you go throught...

Maybe your doctor should have started you on a lower dose than 50mg. 25mg to start with would be less intense.

I dont know about the head twitching but it my be the anxiety from the med that is making that.

Your doctor told you to stop but did he advise on anything else? Will you see him soon?
