Headache with sertraline 50mg on week 7

I have on sertraline (Zoloft) 50mg more than 7 weeks , latest 4 days I have been experiencing strange headaches that gets worse during the day. It's like tension like headache all over the head and/or thunderstrikes for less than a second at any spot on the head. My main concern is that this is not a side effect from sertraline because it appeared rather late during my treatment (meaning that my body is used to the medicine). Need to mention that I have been taking amitriptyline (very low dose) as well,,,and have quit this (on my own) before a week , maybe a withdrawal symptom? Anyone else ever experienced something relevant ? Headaches, but not from the start of the medication . Thank you all

    Hi Joannis,

I’m 6 weeks into treatment at 75mg just the past week and today have a dull headache.  I take 10mg amitriptyline as well for sleep.  For me I think I didn’t drink enough water.  It has quite a dehydrating effect.  How is your hydration could that be your issue?

Thank you for your reply , I ll try drink some more water and maybe keep a track, nevertheless the medication itself does not provoke dehydration (dry mouth is a different story)

Hi. My headaches haven't come back since I reduced my sertraline to 100mg. After six months I seem to have stabilised on 100mg and 400 mg magnesium and I feel better than I have for years, energetic, mellow but still capable of feeling emotional. I am so pleased I joined this forum and stuck with the medication.

Hello. I started getting headaches and back ache about 3 months after starting sertraline which got worse about 2 weeks after I increased the dose to 150mg. I had a permanent headache behind my eyes. One day I suddenly felt better but in the evening I remembered that I had not taken my medication that morning as my granddaughter was staying over. The next day I took the Sertraline and the headache and backache returned. Over the following two weeks I slowly reduced my dose back to 100mg and now the headaches have disappeared. I am sure that my body was reacting to the influx of the medication after it had built up in my system. Perhaps you are very sensitive to the drugs, possibly the combination of the two. It may just take a while to detox and withdraw from the amitriptyline. I hope you get some helpful answers and feel better soon.
