headaches and feeling overwhelmed

I started sertraline in November. Was prescribed 25mg for 5 weeks then have been on 50mg for 6 weeks. About 3 weeks ago felt I was going back over and am struggling to pick myself back up. Nothing has changed, no different brands but am having lots and lots of headaches. Feeling at times overwhelmed . Am managing to carry on working and hide stuff but it's totally exhausting. Am feeling more and more detached. I'm going back to gp next week but am really wondering whether this is just who I am now and whether the medication will ever make any difference?

Possibly the Sertraline are not working for you although it's still early days on 50mg.

Perhaps ask the doctor and he'll prescribe something else!

    Hi,

What was the medication prescribed for back in November, and what improvement had you seen before the slump 3 weeks ago?

Headaches seem quite a common side effect but it doesn't sound like you've been troubled with them until recently. Perhaps you are feeling more under pressure to get back to "normal". I definitely wouldn't give up on getting back to the person you want to be again. That person is still inside; it's just your brain chemicals that are out of kilter at the moment. Don't give up on yourself, buddy. You are making every effort you can but be careful not to burn yourself out with being seen to cope. Perhaps you need a little break to recharge your batteries, even if this is just taking some time out to relax, re-connect with family/friends, rediscover your mojo. It sounds simple in theory, but we are all different so listen to your body and find your own rhythm. You are not alone though.

Wishing you good luck & sending you positive thoughts :-)

Thanks Digby. It was prescribed for low mood and anxiety following a really stressful period at work. I did have some time off but felt I had to get back. It now feels like it is affecting other areas in my life too. Before the blip I had just started to feel a bit more positive maybe in hindsight I was trying too hard . I think you have a point about being seen to cope and maybe I am a little impatient. It can be overwhelming at times but it's not all bad

I know the feeling of being too easily overwhelmed. Have you heard the saying: "I take one day at a time...but sometimes several days attack me at once"? Life sometimes seems like a juggling act, trying to keep all aspects of our life - work, family, relationships, housework - all up in the air at the same time. Often we can let one or two of these areas slip so that we can focus on something else. With me, I started not being able to cope with any aspect of my life, even the small things. This maybe a sign that something in our life needs to change, even if it is the way we see ourselves rather than an external change. The meds are taking their time to kick in, but I am being helped by some counselling at the moment. It can be good to talk to someone outside of our personal situation and get an objective view. Is this something you could consider? What seems most important is a positive frame of mind, which you do have. It's what helps when our thoughts and feelings start to get the better of us. If we can tell ourselves that our negative thoughts do not determine our reactions, we can take control of our lives back. It's not an easy journey but it will be worth it when we rediscover the person we want to be. And we're not alone on the journey. Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress or if you need any support :-)

Thanks John. I totally understand wanting to get away from it all. Glad the increase seems to be working for you.
