I am 10 days out from surgery. My stitches are dissolving - confirmed by the doctor a few days ago when a asked about the "funky" vaginal discharge (smell/color/consistancy).
He said everything looks good. So 2 questions: If the stitches are dissolved and everything is in place does this make a re-prolaps less likely ? How long post rectocele does the bowel pressure last ?

Hi hun
No you can still 're prolapse even if stitches have dissolved.
The first 12 wks are crucial as that's when you make scar tissue which is what keeps the organs and tissues in place.
Heavy lifting ,straining on toilet is one of The many reasons we prolapse.
No one answer to how long they last.
Some of us fail after a few weeks like I did and I was so so careful, but I feel it was the surgeon fault and others last for years. We just hAve to be mindful what we do and use our head.
If we are going out jogging and lifting stuff in the garden then all that downward pressure has to go somewhere. Yes that's right it goes to the weakest part.. Our repair😱😱😱
I refuse to lift shopping bags, and hoover, and swimming is the exercise of choice. Take care and don't do too much the first 6 weeks xx

I will be happy when my stitches dissolve 😣 to not be uncomfortable to sit anymore!! My doc said 6 weeks for them to properly dissolve? But yes, in all the many different opinions/information I have seen the 12 week recovery time is usually mentioned alot as important. I was told I could resume light duties, but no "working" or doing things below hip height or above shoulder height, & no lifting anything heavier than a kettle/2L milk/2kg. I potter around & do a few things that fit in that category but I asked the question & think I have been doing too much 🙈 I am only about the same not quite 2 weeks post op though, maybe after the 6 weeks we can start doing a little More? As for the rectocele pressure, I would think after that 6 weeks after the stitches are fully dissolved we may start feeling a little more comfortable?

At 6 weeks I was still doing nothing only shower, making tea in a saucepan, walking round house and garden.. I started doing a little more after that but only washing cups and light stuff. I'm lucky in a way my kids are grown up but sometimes they are worse than kids😁😁😁
It's really mentally draining but hope it's all worth it..just sad these repairs can fail so soon xx

And a little (for me) externally irrating.
But at least you no longer feel stuffed with a cactus.
