Healing Costochondritis and Anxiety

Hi All,

I have been dealing with Costochondritis for nearly 5 months and like all of you, am at my wits end! It came about after I had experienced a very intense 3 month period of extreme anxiety due to lots of little and big stress factors in my life. I had a lot of physical symptoms accompany my anxiety but after seeing a social worker and psychologist for a few months I am feeling much much better and happy : ) and can see why and how I ended up with anxiety. Basically, I didn't know anxiety could manifest physically and it got worse because I began to become more anxious. Thankfully that is under control and all my blood tests and ultrasounds and bp/ heart rate are all normal and I feel more like a new and improved me. But about the time I got a grip on my anxiety the chest pains kicked in. I understand why and how and have been diagnosed with costo by 2 different doctors. I have tried Meloxicam which seemed to work for a week, but that is about it, apple cider vinegar, drinking ginger and chamomile tea, eating lots of vegetables and vitamins and trying not to life thing (which is very hard to avoid) and still I have costochondritis. I am even lathering myself with arnica gel everyday. I wanted to hear from anyone out there that has had costo arise from anxiety and also any tips for healing? I try to walk as much as I can and do soft exercise but am frightened I am aggravating it all. Thanks for any thoughts or advice smile Kelly

I think it does does Maureen. I've had cost for about 2 years now but recently with other symptoms think I may have fibromyalgia too sad I think u can get shoulder blade pain with both. I'm so frustrated at the moment as my anxiety levels aren't too bad at all at the moment and things have settled before even when I've been stressed so I don't know why I'm suffering so much at this time. Anxiety definitely doesn't help with costo or fibro. Feel like I'm fighting a losing battle at times 🙀

    Hi All,

I was just diagnosed with costo. I'm 38 year old female. I have been under a tremendous amount of pressure. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for the last 10 months. When I first felt the pain, I thought it was cancer. I was so scared because my mom passed away from breast cancer. I think what sent my symptoms over the edge was a bad fall I suffered two weeks ago. I tripped over uneven concrete while running. It sent me flying in the air and then I came down hard on my knees and left arm. The pain started on my left side and now it seems to be traveling to the right. Has anyone experienced that? It also radiates down my left arm and my ring and pinkie finger go numb. I also get the paid in my shoulder blades and they seem to get itchy. Also, if I have a flare up, it hurts to take a deep breath. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? Are there any homeopathic remedies that help?? Thanks!!!

Yes I have had the same symptoms and then some at times. Sorry you are going through this. Costro really stinks!!!! Arnica gel is one thing that might help. Reducing sugar really helped me. Kineseology tape,Epsom salt with lavender and baking soda in a bath helps. I live for my soft icepack its the best. I literally take it with me wherever I go. Theres also a website that shows exercises for Costro.

Hope this all helps. O and I pray alot too(Definitely helps mee)

Thank you! I bought some arnica gel. It seems to help. I will try the other items you mentioned. Has it ever made you dizzy or lightheaded?

has costro ever made me dizzy???? Yes it has. But it could also be the anxiety as well. I'm so glad Arnica gel helped..thats awesome!!!!  If you have any medical concerns..you should definitely ask your dr as well. I go to my drs office at least once a week when my Costro is acting up . She will do a full exam as well as ekgs. That always amkes me feel better and reassures me!!!

      Hi Lisa,

Some gels have more alcohol or other ingredients in them. You want one that is mostly Arnica gel in it for best results. Good luck Feel Good

Has anyone had really sharp, stabbing pain in the breast with costo? My left breast in particular has been rly painful for a few weeks. I had a mammogram couple of months ago and all was clear. Consultant said that altho I had costo that also had breast changes (peri?) but the pain is horrible sometimes. Can costo cause more pain in breast than in the sternum 🤔
