Healing time for botox for analysis fissure

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi everyone!

So I went in for the botox treatment for my anal fissure around 3 weeks ago, after trying every cream for the past year or so to no avail.

Since the treatment my pain is still there and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and was successful and how long it took for the fissure to heal?

Any advice truly appreciated!!

Is your pain exactly the same as before, or is it different? Do you have the pain during and after BM or at other times?

    Regards

The pain is pretty much the same as before, but I now also get an ache that travels down my leg which I never had before. The horrible ache and throbbing is also still there after Bm. It feels like nothing has changed to be honest!

    Hi

I had two rounds of botox (1st did nothing at all to improve) - 2nd had me admitted straight to the ward about 4 days later in extreme agony and the only thing that made a difference was being knocked out and injected with nerve deadners and then 3 days in hospital on morphine etc.

Clearly (to me at least) it is very hit and miss with botox and what might work for one person will not for the other - in my case all the hacking around and pulling in there has made things worse and I would NEVER go back for surgery unless it was life and death.

Sorry to be so negative about Botox but not everyone gets results.

That's what I was afraid of hearing! I've also heard it's more effective on new fissures.

My surgeon said he only ever does the botox treatment twice on one patient and if it still doesn't work I will have to have the muscle cut (not too sure what that's called).

I'm sorry to hear nothings worked for you. Are you still suffering? Does anything help ease the pain for you?

Well it took around 2 years to get back to a pain free state of being but I still have to be ultra-careful about what I eat and never forget to drink lots of water.

I take 2-3 sachets of macrogol each day to ensue enough water is absorb into the gut to keep loo trips soft.  Obviously I try never to strain on loo.

I also took for about 9 months (mostly on) anoheal cream - which did a far better job than the headache inducing rectogesic.

The worst thing is to have your anal muscle go into spasm (which effectively means its tightening up and then makes going to loo that much harder).

Pain meds I have taken include:

      - Dicolfenac

      - Paracetomol

      - Naproxen

      - Traumadol (if it gets very bad)

      - Diazepam (this is very good for heping to ease/relax your whole body when your anal muscle goes into spasm)

Thankfully, my doctor gets it - the pain from this is damned awful and the NHS advice is really outdated/pathetic.

The number of times I hae read of women who have given childbirth and say that the pain of a fissure is much worse should be warning enough to anyone who underestimates just how debaliating it can be.

I was doing great until I got a chest infection/hacking cough then food poisoning which gave me a very bad episode of piles (internal and external) - but I am hopeful I will return to as I was a few weeks ago and carry on a normal life.

Bottom line - having a fissure sucks - its very painful - nobody can fully appreciate how it grips you with pain and it can mentally wear you down.

At least we have this forum to help/discuss with each other.

My advice is get anoheal cream and use macrogol (3 sachets a day) - that was a definite turning point for me.  Never suffer in pain and demand your GP gives you adequate pain relief (paracetamol is not enough on its own).

      Hope you recover quickly . . .

Thanks for the pain relief advice -  i will certainly be looking into them!

My main issue is the straining because I iust want to get it over and done with!

No one will understand unless they have suffered. I've missed my train to work countless times because I simply cant walk! It's completely debilitating and what's worse it's not something you can leave to heal, when you need to go, you have to go!!

Giving yourself time to heal is def important - I am lucky enough to work from home most of the time - I cannot imagine the difficulty of commuting with this (I did a few flights to Scotland but ended up taking sleeper as I could lie on my side!)

The macrogol will def make your BM's that much softer and the aim is to sit on toilet and let it drop out naturally with as little squeezing as poss.  I normally drink a cup of coffee first thing and I am on loo in 5 mins - but I always need to go twice before even thinking about leaving house.  You will soon get into a routine that works for you.

Other things - witchhazel distilled in bottle - apply this with a few cotton wool pads soaked into the area and leave for 5-10 mins - do this after trips to loo.

Now as mad as this might sound what def helps alos is APPLE CIDER VINEGAR - get the cloudy stuff as it has more potent properities.  It does a couple of things - it seems to counteract the stinging of the open wound/fissure and shrinks a tag (sentinel pile tag - if you are unfortunate to have or develop one).

I have tried most things trust me and the above helps. Green Bay Apple Cider Vinegar with 10+ Manuka Honey 500ml - sold from Ocado or Waitrose I think is the real deal.  At my very worst stinging pain this really helped.

Remember no one thing is an overnight cure.  Patience, and encouragement from others who have been through what you are going through now to let you know it will get better slowly.  Always remember - what goes in your mouth has to come out the other end and digesting it.

Oh and lastly - get your GP to give you some Magnesium Hydroxide Oral Suspension  - as if you forget to drink enough water during day - or have that pizza of too much bread etc that will have you panicking about the next day's loo trip - a few spoonfuls of this stuff will ensure you are not clogged up!

The commuting is hell. Even if you get through that bit, sitting at a desk all day after BM is still incredibly painful.

I'll try and bare that in mind next time and also try to take a trip to the supermarket this weekend! I've heard that manuka honey is good for the stinging. I've been resulting to warm baths after every Bm which isn't always practical!

I will ask my GP about the oral suspension. I'm due to visit my surgeon again in February to see how the botox has worked but I think I'm going to have to make an appointment with my Gp in the meantime because I can't go on with this pain on a daily basis.

Thanks for the advice, fingers crossed I start seeing an improvement soon!
