hi!

i am 29 years old and been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. however, i am convinced i have a blood clot or a pulmonary embolism. i have little symptoms, but i just cant shake it. About 2 months ago i woke up with my left arm numb and instantly my heart started to race so i went the the ER. My EKG was fine, but my d-dimer was mildly elevated so they did a CT scan on my chest and head and found nothing. No real answers as to why my d-dimer was elevated but the dr didnt seem concerned and sent me home

with ativan to calm down. i had follow ups with my primary care dr and told him how concerned i was and he said d-dimer could be elevated for many reasons and he wasnt concerned either. i still couldnt shake it though so i asked about having my d-dimer drawn again on october 15th to see if its higher, lower, or the same so my dr agreed to do that and to my surprise it was back down to normal and i was thrilled..... for a few weeks until i started to feel a constant ache in my left calf to ankle and to the bottom of my foot that is slightly warm to touch at times. no swelling or discoloration. now im back on red alert! i have been dealing with that for about a week and then today i began to have sharp pain in the right side of my chest that comes and goes when moving around and a dry cough. nothing hurts when i take a deep breath and my breathing seems fine, heart rate is normal, and i am not coughing up blood or anything like that. just stabbing pain when moving around and a dry cough. so with that, i totally convinced its a blood clot or PE and that something is going to happen to me. i see my dr tomorrow and i am going to beg him to do another d-dimer to make sure it stayed low but i have a feeling he is just going to tell me its anxiety. in my head, i am thinking when it was elevated before maybe i had a small clot in my numb arm but since it wasnt red or swollen they didnt check it and maybe it dissolved on its own and allowed my d-dimer to go back to normal... and i read if they dissolve on their own its a high chance of getting them again but this time in my leg. i am just so scared they are going to miss this and it will cost my life and my 5 year son will grow up without his mom.

i just feel so scared ... is this just anxiety?

you’ve got to remember that anxiety can cause all sorts of aches and pains and a racing heart. . Even numbness, tingling etc. The doctors don’t seem concerned. You also have to remember that anxiety creates negative thoughts and fear. When fear takes over, that’s when panic can happen. 99% of everything we worry about doesn’t actually happen.

anxiety written thoughts are not based on fact or reality. Only on fear. So what you are doing is overthinking everything and the fact that you convinced yourself that you have a blood clot does not make it true.

Wait for your appointment and talk to your doctor and take it from there. But once you get good results, you’ve got to MoveOn.

people with blood clots have UNDERLYING conditions that predisposes them to getting blood clots. there is most likely no reason for you to have one. Do some slow long deep breathing and relax your mind before your appointment. you’re going to be fine.
