Hi my names David im 26 and suffer from health anxiety with my heart. My half brother had a heart attack at 28 so when that happened i became scared soo It started just over 2 years ago I've had over 30 visits to A&E I've had over 10 blood tests. 30 ecg's. 9 chest x-rays. I've also had a 24 hr heart monitor and a CT angiogram of my heart and valves and everything has always came back fine even my blood pressure and oxygen and heart rate and cholestrol levels are all normal yet I still suffer heart attack symptoms. Does anyone else think it's anxiety? The A&E nurses and head nurses have told me that there is no way after all the tests I have had there is a problem with my heart should i take there word for it??

Hi David, It sounds like you are a pretty healthy guy. Your doctors have tested you thoroughly. Relax and feel good about yourself.

I am going through this right now. I feel my heart thumping in my chest, pulse in my head. My whole body rocks when I am trying to sleep. My muscles are really tight also. I've been to the ER many times as well and everytime I was told it was anxiety. So I think it's possible.

I've not long rang 111 for help and advice as I thought I was having Heart Palpitations but I did my blood pressure readings whilst I was on the phone and she said they seemed fine.

With my anxiety (and possibly a lot of people too) I tend to concentrate on my heart beat and I believe I'm making it worse.

Same here. But if you've been checked out, you should try your best to believe the results. I know it's hard, I am having a hard time myself. I haven't slept good in a few days and have bad palpitations which lead to multiple panic attacks. My body is flooded with adrenaline and the thought of all of it just makes it worse. I try to relax as much as possible cause with each attack the symptoms just gets worse.

It's natural to be afraid, considering what happened to your half-brother; however, you've had every test that would reveal a heart condition.  I've struggled with the exact same worries and it took me a long time to accept that anxiety was causing my cardiac symptoms, because the sensations felt so real.

I think seeing a mental health professional could be really beneficial for you.  I was incredulous when someone first recommended I see one because I was certain my issues were physical, not mental; however, there is no way you have an underlying heart problem after all those diagnostics.  Your mind has become stuck in this obsessive feedback loop.  Your brian imparts a tremendous degree of control over your body and is responsible for your symptoms.  In order to rid yourself of your symptoms, you need to find a way to break out of that cycle of obsessive worry.

I hope you feel better soon, I know these worries can be debilitating.  Try to relax and take some comfort in the fact that it's definitely anxiety, trust in the tests you've had done.  Many of us on this board have been in your exact same position.

    Hey David

Well, you should ask your brother what was the cause of his heart attack. If he knows. Get some input on his health. Are you hypersensitive to your Anxiety? There's a website that explains this. It means you constantly check your heart rate, if you're anxious ect. Which triggers your Anxiety. You should stop checking this things out and relax. Dont live a sedentary life and eat well, stay hydrated, take your vitamins. Get a therapist. Too much Anxiety is bad for you. You're constantly on the fight or flight. I struggle with the same issue I think my doctors didn't check right and I have something. It's always better to be safe than sorry. If you think you have something don't always dismiss it as Anxiety what if it isn't? Always know the signs of a stroke, heart attack, mini stroke, aneurysm, brain hemmorage. If you think it's an emergency go to the ER. Dont hesitate. 👍Take caresmile
