Heamorroidectomy swelling

Hi everyone, I'm based in the UK.

I had a closed heamorroidectomy six days ago for two internal piles. I've never had external ones.

A few days ago I plucked up the courage to take a look using a mirror at what was causing the pain I am in.

I see swelling, huge swelling on the outside that looks like piles. I gather from reading others comments that this is just the swollen surgery site pushing through.

What concerns me is that I can see black stuff.... I can't make out stitches just an area where the anal opening is that is decidedly black.

Also on one bit of the swelling is what looks like an ulcer, the sort you get in your mouth.

I'm currently not able to sit comfortably so getting to the Dr will be awful and I don't want to be over reacting when appointments are so hard to come by.

I'm bleeding a teaspoon full or so after BM's and sometimes in-between. Today I've got a very small amount of greenish yellow discharge but no temperature or additional pain.

Should I be concerned about the black bit/ discharge?

Hi, in my non medical opinion, No. I, and many, have unpleasant discharge for the first month. Heck, I still have moments of discharge 5 months later. I never went to the point of looking because I just did not want to see anything. But discharge in general is normal and expected.

Thank you for your reply Jane.

The leaflet the hospital gave me mentions yellow or clear discharge immediately after the procedure but doesn't say how long it goes on for nor does it mention the external swelling, that bit I learnt on this forum. I think the hospital needs to give more information to save needless visits to the already over stretched NHS. 🤔.

Hi I waiting for my surgery date feeling very worried. I have been reading peoples stories and making myself over think it all . Do you feel it's well worth the pain and is it as bad as everyone says . I'm in the UK and a lot of blogs are from America xx

Hi Julie, I hadn't read a single thing on the subject before my op but I can honestly say I would still have had it done despite all the horror stories.

Yes it's painful, not so much in hospital if you're given morphine but once that wears off it's bad.

My first BM (Op on Friday, BM Sunday) was excruciating. I was crying, shaking and feeling sick. I will say a week later the BM's are less painful but still sting a lot.

As has been said on this forum DO NOT get constipated. I have oats, three lots of fruit for brekkie, fruit after a salad filled lunch, loads of veg with dinner, make sure everything is wholemeal and drink three litres of fluids every day. I have two cups of tea and rest is water. Oh and fybogel as directed by the consultant.

Living with mucus discharge and prolapsing piles was awful. I couldn't walk for ten minutes without being in pain. So heres hoping this pain will be very worth it. 😁.

Hi, I am from USA. Overall i regret the surgery. Like Ouchy, I did not read up in advance because my situation was an acute emergency. I wish I had.Unless there is no other option I would strongly NOT recommend this procedure. If no other option, sobeit. But I would exhaust all alternatives first.
