Hearing Aids

When diagnosed 9 years with menieres ENT consultant advised hearing aid would be of no use to me. Recently had hearing test, hearing loss now in both ears. Having 2 hearing aids fitted in a couple of weeks. Does anyone use hearing aids due to hearing loss caused by meniere's, if so, do they work, and will I hear as previously?? Appreciate your comments.

HI. ...I believe md is now in both ears, waiting confirmation...thanks for your reply, I've read about problems some MD suffers have but I'll give it a try, getting me down miss hearing, people thinking I'm ignoring them, being told 'it doesn't matter, not important' being laughed at or embrassement in shop when you insist they have given you wrong change, or I've given them the wrong amount. How do you cope with hearing loss, do you stop interacting with people? Any advice appreciated

Its difficult my family and friends know what I'm like but I miss hearing my grandchildren talking and the birds singing I think people think because they can't see nothing wrong with you that you are just ignorant but in actual fact it's them that are take care

    Hi.

I have bilateral menieres and have used hearing aids on and off for a few years. My hearing was stable for a longtime and I didn’t need any amplification. I had surgery last year and needed a permanent left aid so I brought a pair of GN resound, if I didn’t have them I would be all but deaf. I can’t hear much if anything without them. All I would say is when my hearing fluctuates they arnt so good as they can only be set for one level of loss. But find your self a good audiologist and get them to play around with the levels. They certainly don’t make life anymore difficult and on good days I get to hear pretty good. I can’t say what normal is like anymore I have had MD for 10 years. But don’t give up the more you pay the better they get.

    Hope this helps

My audiologist told me that hearing aids could help, but only to a point.  I took it that it depended on the amount of loss.  I did get an aid for my ear with MD and it does help, though the hearing is still lower in that ear.  But when I put it on, I do hear things get louder.  Fortunately for me, my right ear still has pretty good hearing.  The hearing aid also helps mute the electronic buzz that I have in that MD ear.

I wear one hearing aid in my left ear. I think I’ve lost most of my hearing in that ear, although a hearing test said not. The hearing aid helps a bit but not if I’m in crowds of people, then I can’t hear because of all the noise going on around me.

    It’s worth trying anything though.
